As a family owned and operated vacation rental establishment in beautiful Evergreen, we are privileged to be located directly on Bear Creek in a forested area. With eight duplex cabins and two houses, our lodging is located approximately one mile from downtown Evergreen, is close to parks and open spaces, and is approximately ten miles from the world class live music venue, Red Rocks. We are honored to host guests from near and afar that come to enjoy our unique lodging accommodations and natural setting. For each property, we have a dedicated ground water supply well and septic system. Although it is difficult to estimate actual effect of the improvements and advances due to the absence of a baseline, the nature of our actions and business, and significantly, these highly challenging and variable social conditions, we focused on the goals of sustainability, reduction of impact to the overall environment, notably Bear Creek, and maximizing the longevity, serviceability, and functionality of our infrastructure. We have organized the steps we’ve taken into three specific categories.

Responsible Energy & Greenhouse Gas Reduction

    • We have replaced all existing light bulbs with new LED bulbs, providing more lumens, longevity, less heat and substantially more efficiency than previous incandescent models. We now have switches in all cabins to control the outdoor porch lights when previously several lights were illuminated at all times. we have now put all of our facility lighting (i.e., sign lights and decorative string lights) on light sensors, basically halving the time period they are illuminated. In the next several weeks, we are replacing our two sign lights (old-style halogen 300 watt bulbs) with LED fixtures. For the sign lights, both steps will certainly reduce our electrical power usage.

    • We have also replaced two hot water heaters with new, more energy efficient models. Another benefit of the new water heaters is they feature an operational light that can be easily observed to monitor the status of the unit.

Waste Minimization & Diversion

    • We no longer provide single use personal care products in the rental units, and replaced them with refillable, permanently-mounted dispensers which are stocked with liquid plant-based, fragrance/dye free shampoo, body wash, and conditioner. The new hand soap dispensers are filled with “regular” non-germicidal liquid hand soap at this time, but will be changed in the near future.

    • We have improved recycling signs for all our recycling receptacles, resulting in very little trash or other non-recyclable material being placed in them.

    • We have switched entirely to a plant-based surfactant which removes the bacteria and viruses, and especially for the bacteria, puts it where it belongs, back into our wastewater stream and septic system .

Water Conservation & Quality

    • promoting infiltrations over direct runoff of water and sediment, and ensuring the optimal operation of the on-site wastewater treatment system

    • Our cabin lawn experiences a high degree of activity, so full grass coverage is important not only for guest comfort, but also to promote infiltration into the ground rather than direct runoff into the creek

Corporate Social Responsibility

    • At the source, we now exclusively use plant-based, phosphate and dye/fragrance free laundry detergent for on-site laundry operations.
