Dear STA Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! My name is Katherine McMahon and I will be your child's first grade teacher. This will be my second year teaching at St. Thomas the Apostle School and my sixth year teaching.

It’s going to be an awesome year full of lots of fun, learning and new adventures. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for our classroom family. I am so excited to learn all about you, but first I’m going to tell you a little about me!

I was born and raised in Barrington, Rhode Island. I am the middle child of three girls. I attended Catholic Schools Pre-K through the completion of my Master's Degree. I have always dreamed of being a teacher since I was a little girl. Teaching is truly my passion!

I went to college in Philadelphia at St. Joseph's University where I studied to become a teacher and taught there for two years (Master of Science - Education: Reading Specialist & Bachelor of Science - Early Childhood and Special Education). I’ve also lived and taught in New York City. I moved to Avon, Connecticut last year and I couldn’t be more excited to call it my home!

My goal is to make your child feel at home in our classroom and come together to create a positive learning community. Our community will be made of unique individuals, learning styles, interests, hopes and dreams.

Throughout the year, it is really important to have a strong parent-teacher relationship. If at any time you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. You can email me at: kmcmahon@stastmschool.org. Also, please check our class SeeSaw group regularly as I will be sending reminders, news, homework and other information that might be helpful.

I am looking forward to a fantastic school year!

Kindly,

Miss McMahon
