Dear STA Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! My name is Katherine (McMahon) Seaman, and I will be your child’s first-grade teacher. This will be my fourth year teaching at St. Thomas the Apostle School, my second year as the Lower School Head Teacher, and my eighth year teaching overall.

It’s going to be an awesome year full of fun, learning, and new adventures. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for our classroom family. I’m so excited to learn all about you, but first, I’d love to tell you a little bit about myself!

I was born and raised in Barrington, Rhode Island, and I’m the middle child of three girls. I attended Catholic schools from Pre-K all the way through my Master’s degree. I’ve dreamed of becoming a teacher since I was a little girl. Teaching is truly my passion!

I attended college in Philadelphia at St. Joseph’s University, where I earned both my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Special Education and my Master of Science in Education as a Reading Specialist. After college, I taught in Philadelphia for two years and later lived and taught in New York City.

I currently live in Avon, Connecticut. This summer, I got married in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island! It was the most wonderful day, surrounded by all of our family and friends.

My goal this year is to create a warm, welcoming environment where your child feels at home. Together, we’ll build a positive classroom community made up of unique individuals with different learning styles, interests, hopes, and dreams.

Throughout the year, a strong parent-teacher relationship is key. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can email me at kmcmahon@stastmschool.org. Also, please stay tuned for our class SeeSaw group, where I’ll post reminders, news, and other helpful updates.

I am looking forward to a fantastic school year!

Warmly,
Mrs. S
