A Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) is a technical prototyping platform where people can design and build their own technology. They began as began as an outreach program from MIT‘s Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA). Fab labs aim to provide stimulus for local entrepreneurship and serves as a platform for learning and innovation.
Fab labs are designed in a way that people with minimal training can come and work on developing their own technology for personal or commercial use. Fab Labs also becomes a medium for connecting to a global community of learners, educators, technologists, researchers and innovators – essentially becoming a self-sustaining global knowledge sharing network.
A Fab Lab consists of state-of-the-art digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, electronics workbench, PCB milling machine, vinyl cutter etc. Allowing anyone to express their ideas through technology.
With the support of Government of Kerala, Kerala Startup Mission has setup Fab labs in association with the Center for Bits & Atoms, MIT, USA at Technopark, Trivandrum and Kerala Technology Innovation Zone in Kochi.
The Fab Lab Network is an open, creative community of fabricators, artists, scientists, engineers, educators, students, amateurs, professionals, of all ages located in more than 78 countries in approximately 1,600 Fab Labs.
Designing and building CNC machines using machines in a Fab lab.
Develop autonomous UAVs for aerial mapping and disaster relief
Develop systems and infrastructure to shift the city into a circular economy
Fab lab provides access to advanced Digital Fabrication machines like 3D printers, Laser cutters, CNC mills for any prototyping needs.
Join the Fab community and become a part of the growing Hardware ecosystem in the Kerala.
A Fab lab Visit provides an opportunity to explore the various fabrication possibilities of a fab lab.
FabLab Kerala Challenge is designed to enable students to build solutions that could help in directing the state’s development by making use of the 22 mini FabLabs distributed across Kerala.
