GCSEs are a globally recognised qualification studied throughout the UK in state and private schools. The qualification is graded using Grades 1-9 (lowest to highest) and all of the qualification is based upon a terminal exam sat in the summer term of Year 11.
iGCSEs are the preferred examination taken in UK private schools across a range of subjects. Their content is designed to support the international student who may not have knowledge of the culture and traditions in the UK. Some of the iGCSE courses feature a coursework element which allows students to gain a percentage of their grade before sitting a formal examination.
The iGCSE and GCSE both use the 1-9 grading system; where 1 is the lowest grade to be achieved and 9 is the highest. 'Expected' attainment in the UAE is a Grade 5.
