REQUIREMENTS
NYS LEARNER'S PERMIT REQUIREMENT
Students must have passed their NYS Learner's permit test prior to the start of the driver education program. Click here for NYS DMV information >>
Students must have their permits on their person for every Driver Edu road instruction session or they will not be permitted to drive.
COURSE MATERIALS
Textbook: All students must have a textbook as soon as possible. The textbook is “How to Drive” The Beginning Driver’s Manual published by AAA. 15th edition. They may be purchased for $35. (udpated as of the Summer 2024 program) We will also may use a number of brochures published by AAA.
CLASS STRUCTURE
Each class consists of the following:
1.5 hour classroom instruction
1.5 hour on the road driving instruction
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance: Perfect attendance is necessary to meet NY State requirements for certification.
DRIVING CLASSES (ON THE ROAD INSTRUCTION
Driving classes are extremely difficult to make up. Always speak with your Driving and Lecture Teacher first if an absence is necessary and must occur. If an absence is due to serious illness, we will do our best to assist you. ALL CLASSES MUST BE MADE UP. There may be an extra fee charged if necessary to cover the cost of a driving class if it needs to be made up.
EMERGENCIES
Emergencies: Call the school during school hours at (631)271-2020. In the case of bad weather, you may also call (631)421-9190 for a recorded message. Call before you come to St. Anthony’s for the most updated information. If St. Anthony’s is closed Driver Ed. is cancelled. This information may also be obtained from local news sources.
PARENT PRACTICE
Parents, please remember that practicing with your child is a very important part of this program so that proper driving skills can fully develop.

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION AND CERTIFICATE MV-285
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive (in the mail) their MV-285 certificate no earlier than two weeks AFTER the last date of the course.
