5th Grade is expected to follow all classroom procedures daily, as well as the School Code of Conduct.
5th Grade Classroom Values:
Kindness
Respect
Always ask for help
No judgement
Honesty
Try your BEST
Do all things with Jesus in your heart
5th Grade has seen these values since the first day of school on my white board. They remain on the white board for them as a reminder of class etiquette.
Classroom Policies:
No Bullying. This is strongly enforced in my classroom as kindness is the most important part of 5th Grade. We speak kindly to each other, respect boundaries and others' property, and never act violently.
Homework must be done by 8:30a.m. the day after it was assigned.
Example: If Spelling Homework is assigned Monday night, each student must have it complete by 8:30a.m. (before Prayers start) on Tuesday.
When a Faculty or Staff Member is speaking, our students are quiet and attentive. This means if they are working on something, sharpening a pencil, or throwing trash away, they must pause and listen to show respect.
Each person is greeted with students standing and saying "Good Morning/ Afternoon, God bless you".
Students must use a Sign In and Out sheet for the bathroom.
Students must raise their hands in class. Calling out is never responded to or accepted.
Ms. Lazer may clap a rhythm and have the students repeat it as a Call and Response if they are too loud or she needs their attention.
Fifth Grade is expected to be quiet any time they are asked and any time we are lining up or leaving the classroom.
Lost items go into a "Lost" cup in the back of Ms. Lazer's classroom. Ms. Lazer will not investigate lost scissors or pencils. Students are responsible for keeping track of their items.
Daily Routine:
Morning:
Students immediately unpack books and folders at their desks.
School bags are to hang on their own hook in the back of the room.
Lunch boxes placed on the top shelf in the back of the room above schoolbag hooks.
Phones, iPods, or Digital Tablets turned into Phone Box
Eat breakfast and open up Journals.
After prayers, students greet Ms. Lazer and continue Journal
Snack:
Ms. Lazer will call students to get their snacks.
Students are sent to the bathroom 2 at a time- 2 boys, 2 girls.
After snack is cleaned up, students are expected to begin packing up to switch classes.
Switching Classes:
After everyone is packed and ready to go, Ms. Lazer will call students to line up.
Students are silently waiting in line to switch and silent in the hallway as they are switching. They are expected to enter Mrs. Dougherty's room quietly as well as 6th Graders entering Ms. Lazer's room quietly.
Students line up at Mrs. Dougherty's dividing door to switch classes back and wait silently for Ms. Lazer to open the door to come back into their Homeroom.
Students should immediately go back to desks and quietly put books away.
Lunch:
Ms. Lazer will call students to line up for lunch in any particular order she wishes.
Students are to grab their jackets from the hooks and lunch boxes from shelf and immediately line up silently.
Students are quiet as we walk to lunch together-- Ms. Lazer loves to see 5th Grade set an example for how to behave in the lunchroom!
At outside recess, students are expected to play nicely and kindly and find activities they can do that are not physical.
When the bell rings, students gather their belongings and immediately line up practicing silence.
Class quietly walks back to Homeroom
Upon entering the room, students may put their belongings back in their assigned spots, take out a book, and begin reading until prayers come on. Students should always be reading during this time unless directed otherwise.
Rosary:
Every student should have Rosary beads (provided by Ms. Lazer) that they can use during this time of prayer.
One student will be called to pray at the Prayer Table each day.
Students greet Ms. Lazer with proper school greeting after Rosary.
Dismissal:
2 students will be responsible for tying up trash bags at the end of each day
2 students will be responsible for sweeping at the end of each day
All lights, windows and fans must be shut and turned off.
Students will be called to get their school bags and other belongings from the closet as Ms. Lazer chooses to call them
At their desks, students pray an Act of Contrition together and honor school saints
9th Street Line assembles at Ms. Lazer's back door
10th Street Line will go into Mrs. Dougherty's room
Dismissal is always done silently and we will always leave the building by 2:40p.m.
