The second grade has taken on a brand new approach to standardized testing. Instead of being nervous, we had decided to implement the test taking strategies we have discussed all year long. We took deep breaths, stayed calm, recalled all our prior knowledge, paid attention to the actual question, eliminated the answers we knew were incorrect, etc etc! We were super determined to, "show what we know!" Maturely, honestly, and carefully are adverbs that apply to our test taking behavior! This was our very first time taking Terra Nova tests. With the Holy Spirit inside of us, there is nothing we cannot do!

Seeing our friends wearing clothing representing their cultures and hearing them share their traditions, foods and music was thrilling for the second grade. We are proud of the diversity in this school and we celebrate the joy of learning about them all!!

As our class took part in the Stations of the Cross prayers, we were certain to showcase the utmost respect and reverence for our Lord. We went through each of the fourteen stations, committed to learning each of the steps Jesus took for US. We were full of humble appreciation and thanks in the realization of all that He went through in order to save us from our sins. Continuing thanks and love for His sacrifice were entirely apparent in this room that day and the days continuing on thereafter.

Our second graders have taken part in their very own Sacrament Bee, as another form of preparation for our Sacrament of Reconciliation! Shown here are our outstanding finalists and our joyful winner, Philomena Rafferty! We all did a beautiful job during the competition and also showcased great Christian support of our winner. As a class, we have been so inspired by the contestants from the St. Anthony of Padua Religion Bee. We look so forward to building upon these second grade concepts to be ready to one day be an official Religion Bee participant!
This learning event, as well as many other differentiated instructional activities, helped us to ready ourselves for our big night! On Thursday, February 19th, our class was blessed and honored to be forgiven of our sins that we were truly sorry for committing. Our Sacrament of Reconciliation was a tremendously happy time and we were very grateful to Jesus for His gift of mercy. We look so forward to partaking in his body and blood soon in Holy Communion! We have already dove right in to the studying for this outrageous gift of yet another sacrament this year. Thank you, Jesus!
We have been non-stop with our joy & celebrations lately in the second grade! Last week, our Charbel received a scholarship from the class of 1987! His hard work has paid off! Charbel was thrilled to meet some of these members of the class of 1987 and to also learn that it was the year his teacher was born. 😃

As emerging writers, the second grade is working on complete sentences with full, descriptive subjects & predicates. We want our readers to accurately visualize much detail from our text, even without our tremendously thorough illustrations! We have implemented a variety synonyms and antonyms during our editing process in order to showcase all the vocabulary we have learned this past schoolyear! This artistic culminating activity also allowed us to perfect our knowledge of nouns, verbs and adjectives. We always put such wonderful effort into our schoolwork!

Thank you, Jesus for our first practice for Reconciliation! We are working hard and have begun to showcase the knowledge, songs and stories we have learned thus far. We will continue to build upon all of the graciousness from our Lord as we prepare for his mercy to be shown to us! We want to send a special praising shout out to Father Nick and to Mrs. Terri for all of their guidance and help in our sacrament process.

Our holiday travelers, Melody & Diego have returned to our classroom community. Our love overflowed seeing each of them walk into our space! We treasure every moment that we can all be together.
January started out with Derek's birthday; and continuing on we are celebrating three more of our angels. Full festive celebrations occur for each student in this room. Our newest tradition is coming up with adjectives for each of our friends. We love showing the love and I am sure that we enjoy feeling it in return also. Thankfully and much enjoyably, we tend to share our love and share wonderful adjectives and compliments for each other quite often!

Happy New Year to all!
We are happy to be back together in our cozy classroom filled with love, learning and joy! We celebrated our Derek, first thing! His birthday fell over the vacation and he was still celebrating into his Monday return.
With Mel being back from Vietnam and our anticipation for our Diego on Monday, this new year is looking extremely bright already 😍

Second grade has had a beautiful holiday season filled with the joys of celebrating the birth of Jesus, cherished time together, giving in all the ways and even the tiniest excitements from our new peekaboo resident, Figalina! She has made her way secretly through our room dropping tips and nudges for successful learning, as well as tasty chocolate treats!! We loved decorating our nativity, our tree, our door and our hearts all season long and we plan to continue this happiness of Christ with us ever so consistently. Enjoying a birthday party for our beloved Sarah was also a spectacular time! With Mel's return and the joyful sacraments coming soon, we cannot wait for a new year! How blessed are we to be together?!
.......Merry Christmas to all & to all a goodnight <33333

Congratulations to our wonderful girl, Philomena, on her scholarship! We are quite proud!!!!
We have been enjoying the beauty and goodness of awaiting Jesus for His birthday. We have lit two candles on our Advent tree as a class. Advent and the gifts we can give to Jesus and others have been a highlight. We fill our Christmas Advent trees in our copybooks with gifts that would make our savior proud. Gifts we like to give are offering our prayers, time and efforts for others in Jesus' name. As a class, we always recite and really understand our verses. We like to immerse ourselves in the goodness of our Lord not only this season, but in all of the seasons He has blessed us with!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!
Let us also celebrate our
Ambassador of Jesus & Mary (thankfulness) & Student of the Month
Jimmy Ruiz & Ryan Ramirez

This past week was a happy and eventful one! We celebrated our wonderful classmate, Michael, for his birthday, Derek & Nadia have returned, we enjoyed the Turkey-Trot-a-Thon and we studied so very hard! We are constantly moving, constantly working and our battery power shows it. 😉Ask your second grader just what that means!!

This past week we had our Charbel dressed as our class patron Saint, St. Francis of Assisi, during our school's All Saints' Day Mass. He did a wonderful job bringing his pure love for St. Francis and all of the saints to his representation. Sarah did a lovely job reading a short blurb during this showcase. We reminisced so happily about all of the work we enjoyed completing last month around his feast day, October 4th.
Halloween was more than happy in this second grade classroom! We kept with our regularly scheduled programming of constant learning, but made sure to bring some sweets and treats the whole way through!
We have begun researching who happens to be our favorite proper noun yet (besides Jesus), Abraham Lincoln! Our class has thoroughly enjoyed comparing and contrasting the info we have found and have learned so much so far. By enjoying the work we complete, we set the tone for staying power! I look so forward to continuing on with this bound-to-be amazing writing piece.

The past two weeks have flown by in a whirlwind of goodness!! We celebrated our Diego's birthday, we have noticed some super wild long vowels and vowel teams, we completed October's vocabulary theater and had random joys along the way! Enjoy the tiny sneak peek from these photos of us, "living our learning out loud."
*Let us live it, let us enjoy it, let us use it!*

Our students have spent so much time in the writing process lately! We have brainstormed, drafted, edited and published our personal narratives! Wow! Look out for these masterpieces coming home shortly. My final cementing of the personal narrative writing plan came during our pumpkin decorating for the Table or Treat event! We introduced our extravaganza of joy, as a class, and set up our first class narrative, step by step. By reiterating, sharing, sorting and setting our pumpkin's theme as a class, we then showcased the steps in our very own personal narrative writing. Our writing confidence will grow each and every time we put that pencil in our hands!

Our students were able to enjoy such a fantastic & messy time together in the science lab! Once we accepted the shock and awe that flour is indeed a solid, we broke into action! We created different mixtures using our solid flour and liquid water, while identifying all of the changing properties that took place along the way. We continuously altered our amounts to note the property changes from our sticky pastes to perfect dough balls!
Once we were pleased with our brand new creation, we then compared & contrasted this experiment with our initial solid property changing project. We connected the dots to see how differently solids and liquids can act when brought together, highlighting the physical property changes that we saw with observation goggles! Ask your student about that fancy h word, “hypothesis,” for a really smart guess of what may happen, using all of the things they have learned! I am grateful and thrilled to have shared this experience with the Panthers, as it was a tribute to my memories of making dough with my wonderful grandmother. Sharing Mom Mom with the children has been a bonding and beautiful experience, rooted in hands on joy and learning!

We have been incredibly busy learning all about St. Francis of Assisi! I am hoping some of this beneficial Saint info has been relayed to you in the evenings, as our children have been thoroughly immersed in the actions, life and wonderful nature of St. Francis of Assisi! Please check the family folder to see their sweet Saint puppets and coloring pages filled with the lyrics that they so happily performed for their principal! We also have hung up our collages filled with all of the animals and nature photos in honor of St. Francis and his respect for all life. Our role model has brought peacemaking tendencies to our classroom & this love will continue to shine.

What a wonderful week it has already been. We are continuing on with our first set of tests and doing quite an incredible job showcasing our skills so far!!! We started our time this Monday celebrating the weekend birthday of our adored classmate, Jimmy Jellybean!! We had treats and enjoyed each others' company while singing and savoring plenty of Jimmy time!! Our week will continue with more and more learning with the now integrated chrome books for our day to day activities. Stay tuned for some sweet St. Francis of Assisi celebration photos in next week's post!

Our exceptional soccer star Mauricio was so proud to share his goalie gloves with his class this week! God has blessed him with outstanding goalie skills and God has blessed us with his sweet presence each day. Way to go, Mauricio!
We were very proud to share our first group work together showcasing the changing properties of matter. We are constantly working on our respect to listen to each others' ideas and points of view. We did a wonderful job magnifying the detail & congratulating our friends for completing their tasks.

This week was filled with bonding moments, learning & celebration! We celebrated our beautiful Natalia's birthday on Friday with sweet party treats and a showcase of appreciation for our girl. We look forward to the fruitful work we will accomplish next week!

This week in our second grade classroom our Panthers really shined! Aside from all of our hard prep work for the future, we took some time out to celebrate our Blessed Mother's birthday! Scroll through to see the joy we had to create special gifts for her. We even had snacks and made sure to sing to our Lady.
ALSO our wonderful student Michael lost a tooth during class!

The first three days of school were incredibly successful & sweet! Students were asked to share a bit about themselves with the prompt written out on the board, "On this very special day TWO, tell Mrs. Pacienza something so special about YOU!" They then got right to work deciding on which special thing to share in just one short sentence! Choosing was conscientiously done and the children were ecstatic to come up & share! Please look for these sweet sentences on our back bulletin board at Back to School night on the 17th of September!
