June, 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to 4th grade! Listed below is the work your child is required to do this summer.

Reading - Your child should pick one book from the I Survived…series by Lauren Tarshis. Attached is the “Brown Bag Project” they are to complete. It is due by Friday, August 29th.

Math - It is important for students to stay fresh with the math skills they have learned in 3rd grade. Your child’s username and password are the same as 3rd grade. Your child should master the following skills on ixl in the 4th grade section by the end of summer:

A-2: place value   C-1: rounding      D-3: addition   E-3: subtraction

F-1 & F-3: multiplication facts      J-1 & J-3: division facts

AA-1: money

**FF5: Understand fractions: fraction bars – master this in the 3rd grade section.

The first chapters in our math book are on place value, addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication and division facts. It is important that your child know the times tables from 0-12. We will begin multiplication speed drills within the first few days of math class.

Please keep in mind that 4th grade is a transitional year that can be difficult for some students. I believe that with the summer work, your child will be ready to begin right away as a successful 4th grade student.

Have a fun and safe summer! I am looking forward to working with you and your children in August. If you have any questions, please email me. I’ll be checking email once a week and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Sincerely,

Ms. Kathy Frederick
