BIENVENIDOS

a la clase de españól

My name is Kelly Knouse and I have been teaching at St. Anne school since 1994 when I started as the Music teacher. By 1996, a Spanish program was introduced and I taught both Music and Spanish, along with private string and voice lessons. I took a brief hiatus in 2000 when my daughter Abbi was born, and a four year hiatus in 2007 when my son Ben was born. I have been teaching solely Spanish since my return in 2010. I am a graduate of Grove City College with degrees in Voice, Violin and Spanish. In my free time, I enjoy singing throughout the central PA area, occasionally at a professional level, watching my daugther dance and compete and my son play soccer and basketball, and overall just spending time with my family.

Mrs. Knouse teaches Spanish to students grades 2 through 8. In grades 2-5, the students come to Spanish one day a week where they learn vocabulary, familiarize themselves with some Spanish traditions, create projects displayed throughout the school, and incorporate their newly learned language into everyday scenarios. By grades 6, 7 and 8, the students come to Spanish twice weekly. Beginning in grade 7, students follow the curriculum for Spanish 1 at Lancaster Catholic High School, using the same textbook, with the intent to finish it by the end of grade 8 and score well enough on the placement exam to start their first year of high school in Spanish 2. With that in mind, 7th grade students take the same midterm administered at LCHS for their final at end of their year in 7th grade Spanish, usually in May at St. Anne School. Similarly, 8th grade students take the actual final from LCHS, sometime in the spring, which determines their Spanish placements upon entering high school in the fall. This exam is given to all 8th grade Spanish students.

*HOMEWORK*

Homework for Spanish classes is typically only given in 7th and 8th grades. I try to give ample time at the end of class for students to begin and sometimes complete their Spanish homework, if they work diligently. My reasoning for this is to offer help with any questions that students might have before they are home. If your student does not complete his or her Spanish homework and must do it at home, I am always available to answer any questions through email.
