What's in 6th Grade Science?
How many classes will I have?
You will have 6 classes everyday. The four content (Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies), and two exploratory (either health or PE, and one other).
Will we be switching classes or stay in one and learn all subjects?
This year, there was a four man pod and a two man pod. "Pods" are like teams. If you have one teacher on the pod, you will have the rest of those pod teachers. It is possible to have a teacher twice a day, but you will likely switch between classes at least once.
Will I have my own Chromebook?
Yes, at the beginning of the year, you will be assigned a Chromebook for use in class. This chromebook will be your responsibility to care for and return to the cart every day for charging.
PE
You are not required to dress out for PE. You are expected to wear/bring tennis shoes so that you can participate in our class!

Bus
If you ride the bus, you will now ride a bus with middle and high schoolers. Bus expectations are still the same. If you have concerns, please come to the driver or to your teacher. You get more freedom here in middle school, but you also have more responsibility to help keep each other safe.
Comet Champs
Students can earn Comet Champs by being rockstars in the classroom and exhibiting awesome Comet behavior. Look for the announcement about requirements in the fall!
Fun Friday
6th Grade does a weekly Fun Friday. Students who complete all their work for the week earn outside social time. The entire 6th grade (those students who qualify) goes outside together so that you can mingle!
Will we have lunch at the same time?
The entire 6th grade eats lunch at the same time (give or take a few minutes for getting food).
Where do I sit?
You will typically sit with your lunch class, but if your grade level wins the weekly challenge, you get free seating!
How do I know if I have money on my account?
You can ask our amazing lunch ladies! They are wonderful and will not get mad at you for asking. Also, your parents can log onto the link at www.k12paymentcenter.com/ to check or add money to your account.
Do you have any snack lunch items?
This year, our cafeteria had Switch drinks, ice creams, chips, cookies, and a slushie machine! All of these can be purchased with your lunch at the counter.
Do I get a locker? Does it come with a lock?
Is the locker mine?
You are given access to this locker to use for your belongings throughout the year. However, this is still the school's property. Your combination and locker will be kept by the teachers in case it needs to be accessed.
Keeping My Area Clean
Make sure to keep your locker and surrounding areas clean. No one wants leftover food, ants, or spilled drink all over their belongings. Be respectful of how your locker/area affects others around you.
Do you have a Student Council?
Will we have any dances?
Yes, we will have dances throughout the year! Make sure to listen to announcements and watch for dates and times!
All three grade levels are invited to dances unless otherwise stated.
Will we have any spirit weeks?
Yes! We will celebrate several spirit weeks throughout the year! Currently, 6th grade still has possession of the school spirit stick. Will it stay that way?
Are we still going to do robotics?
As far as we know, yes! Make sure to listen for your opportunity to apply!
What is Beta?
Beta is an academic service club. 6th Graders will not be included in induction until spring. But, make sure that you are keeping your grades up if that is something you want!
Math 24 Team
If you are interested in being part of the Math 24 team, see Mrs. Brooks or Mrs. Palmer at school. Also, listen for announcements about open practices!
Battle Of the Books
Battle of the Books is a competition between middle schools in Stanly County. There is a specific list of 12 books that you should read. You don't have to read all 12, but the more you read, the better your chances of making the team. There will be a BOB test in January. The 7-member team will meet after school in February and March. On the day of the competition, we will miss the majority of the day. We compete in a quiz-style format competition. After the competition, we go eat lunch at CiCi's!
