The project objective is to design and construct a remotely controlled watercraft, the 0ILUS, and its command module, the NEDMO, to compete against other teams in a nautical environment. Each 0ILUS will tow a floating target known as the TENDR. The primary goal of the competition is to navigate your 0ILUS to sink the opposing teams' TENDRs while strategically maneuvering to protect your own TENDR from being sunk.
The rule that most significantly influenced our design decisions states that no part of the 0ILUS may extend beyond the circumference of the bumper, and any component other than the bumper that contacts the TENDR will result in the disqualification of the 0ILUS for that game round. Since the regulations do not explicitly prohibit grabbing the TENDR, our design strategically focuses on creating a mechanism that operates within the confines of the bumper. This mechanism is designed to deform the bumper, allowing it to grip the TENDR while maintaining a protective layer of bumper material between them. This approach ensures compliance with the rules while effectively ensured that our TENDR will never sink during competition. Because of not only the design challenge of fitting a large grabber mechanism in our 0TILUS, but also the high reward of guaranteeing a game victory, we named our 0TILUS "Die Wunderwaffe"
