Jeff Camarillo is currently the Middle School and Founding High School Principal of Lodestar, a Lighthouse Community Public School in Oakland, CA. Prior to his current role, Jeff served as the Founding Director of the Luis Valdez Leadership Academy (LVLA), The Foundation for Hispanic Education's second charter high school in East San Jose. Under Jeff's leadership, LVLA graduated its first two classes in which over 80% of the graduates were admitted to four-year colleges and universities. Prior to his experience at LVLA, Jeff served as a Vice Principal at the East Palo Alto Academy and was a classroom history teacher for nine years in his father's hometown of Compton, CA and San Francisco, CA. Jeff draws his inspiration from his hero, best friend and father, retired Stanford University Professor Al Camarillo, who was the 1st Latino professor ever hired in Stanford's History Department and the scholar widely revered as the founder of the field of Chican@/Mexican-American history. Jeff is married to his wife, Josephine, and they are raising their two boys Jaxson, 4, and Jayce, 11 months in Oakland, CA. Jeff is a proud STEP alum from the class of 2005.
