“LeadX has developed my leadership skills by creating an environment in which we can share stories, ask questions, and learn from others’ experiences. It has provided opportunities for self-reflection, long-term thinking, and honest dialogue, all of which have helped me think more critically about the type of leader I hope to become.”
– Sara Borchers, MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmosphere/Energy Program
LeadX is a unique leadership development program designed by DCI Fellows for Stanford graduate students. LeadX provides students the opportunity to explore in a trusted environment the attributes of effective leadership. LeadX is modeled after proven leadership development models, such as the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Forum and the Stanford Women’s Circles. Working in a group, aspiring leaders progress through a program that encourages self reflection and a greater self awareness. LeadX is open to Masters and PhD students from all seven Stanford graduate schools.
Each LeadX group consists of ten to twelve students and is facilitated by two DCI Fellows. Recruited from the Stanford DCI program, the facilitators are proven leaders who are encouraged to share an intergenerational perspective on leadership. Students will share their own personal journeys and will engage in group learning exercises, including a variety that call for self-assessment. Guest speakers from industry and academia will be invited to address topics of group interest.
LeadX is committed to inclusivity and diversity, fully recognizing that leadership development involves appreciating and being challenged by different points of view.
LeadX Groups will meet once or twice a month on the same night of the week and the dates are set and listed below. LeadX Groups will typically meet once a month on the same night of the week. The curriculum balances a focus on an exploration of leadership, including many self-assessment exercises, with an opportunity to learn about practical leadership skills, such as negotiations. “The LeadX program was one of the highlights of my journey at Stanford. It allowed me to develop self-awareness about the things that make you a good leader, learn and develop relationships with highly seasoned leaders in different areas, and most importantly, meet and create longstanding relationships with people outside the Law School. The experience was definitely worthwhile and I would highly recommend it to others.”
– Felipe Grez, Stanford Law School
