On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, a group of graduating students in the Class of 2020 launched the #StandWithKing campaign at Stanford University to pressure university leadership to prioritize funding the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute, which houses the King Papers Project and serves as a leading educational resource for those seeking to learn more about Dr. King’s vision for a more just and peaceful world. We are calling on our fellow graduating seniors in the Class of 2020 to chip in $20.20 to the King Institute to demonstrate to the University that we believe Dr. King’s legacy is worth financially supporting. For those who are not in the Class of 2020, we welcome you to join us and donate $20.20 (or any multiple of it, such as $200.20 or $2000.20) in honor of a graduate, or to donate any other monetary amount that you are able to. Through our $20.20 donation campaign, we hope to show the university that students and the community at large believe in the mission of the King Institute and demand that the university strengthen its commitment to the Institute and the Black community by making the King Institute a fundraising priority and growing the Institute's endowment.
