As a preserver of the ancient faith, our church deeply values the importance of traditions. These include the interpretations of the Holy Scriptures and the structure of liturgical services, which have been founded by Christ.
In the first Century, St. Mark the Apostle established the first church in Egypt, called the Church of Alexandria. The faith was spread across many parts of the world through the Apostles. Today, we are known as the Coptic Orthodox Church, which is part of the Oriental Orthodox Churches. These churches include the Coptic Orthodox Church, Syriac Orthodox Church, Armenian Coptic Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. Our church has preserved the original teachings of our Lord as taught by the Apostles and practiced in the early Church; hence, our faith has remained constant for centuries.
