An ArcGIS web map is an interactive display of geographic information that you can use to tell stories and answer questions. Web maps contain a basemap, a set of data layers (many of which include interactive pop-ups with information about the data), an extent, a legend, and navigation tools to pan and zoom.

Use ArcGIS Instant Apps to share your maps as apps and provide your audience with an intuitive and focused experience to interact with your maps and data.
ArcGIS StoryMaps are a specific kind of mapping application. While they can be created directly from the ArcGIS Online portal, there are other StoryMaps apps like Briefings and Frames that can only be created from the StoryMaps portal. Any StoryMap created in the StoryMaps portal will also show up in your AGO Content list.
