Design and build a Zero-Ingress, Lightweight Uncrewed Scuttlebutt (0ILUS), which is a watercraft capable of navigating up to 18-inch-deep blue waters, and an accompanying Nautical Electromechanical Device for Mobile Operation (NEDMO), composed of one Nonspecific Assignable Vessel CONtroller (NAVCON) and one Free Uninterrupted Energy Laboratory CONsole (FUELCON), each constructed and operated by your team. All of the 0ILUSs will navigate in the SEA. During play, each team will attempt to control their wirelessly paired 0ILUS to sink the Towed External Non-Directional Rigs (TENDRs) of opposing 0ILUS', while navigating in the Shimmering Extent of Ambition (SEA). Wireless navigation is supported by XBee radio modules, and each team's NEDMO should have the capability to connect with every other team's 0ILUS during competition.
The 13" x 11" x 20" 0ILUS highlights the following:
Catamaran design featuring two foam hulls cut at a 20° inward-out angle and a surrounding pool noodle bumper
Servo-controlled rudder interacting with propeller driven by a 4000 rpm DC motor
Two sets of ship masts, crows nests, and sails to ward off competitor vessels and lift up the RF XBee, pairing indicator flag, and pump nozzle
Components are positioned on two main levels:
The lower level holds the propulsion motor and heavier LiMH batteries
The top level stores all PCBs and XBee under 3D printed protective coverings and the pump motor towards the bow
A waterproof electronics housing
See the Mechanical - 0ILUS page for in-depth details
Bidirectional DC motor propeller
Variable pressure DC motor-drive peristaltic pump
Quick one-button pairing process
Responsive and entertaining refueling system
XBee communication through UART and RF
Intuitive connection indicator to minimize user confusion
Precise and responsive Servo-controlled rudder
Refuel by defending your ship from the Brits!
