In hindsight, we should have jumped into building the bot sooner. You will never have the perfect design on the whiteboard. Always iterate quickly with short prototyping cycles.
Power Supply: We used a step-down (buck) converter set to 14V instead of 12V. While this worked most of the time, the battery voltage would occasionally drop below 14V, rendering the converter ineffective. Ensure that the input voltage to the buck converter is always higher than its output voltage.
Ask questions: The teaching staff, especially Prof. Kenny, are extremely helpful, and it’s recommended to run ideas and circuits by them before implementation.
