ME 218A: Team Environmentalized Home

(Formerly Peter and the Schleedes)

Team: Nicholas Chen, Lawrence Domingo, Roshail Gerard, Peter Schleede

Project Background:

Concerned about the environment, Stanford has decided that ME218A students are the "most qualified" to help raise awareness about the Earth's current plight. As part of this endeavor, ME218A students need to create some interface so that after interacting with their system, the user leaves with a higher awareness of their day-to-day actions.

Overview:

Team Environmentalized Home chose to focus on the impact of changing habits at home. The goal of our system was to highlight the need to reduce energy waste by turning off unneeded lights, reducing water use, and installing more efficient windows and insulation. All of these simple choices can make any household more energy-conscious and contribute to a better Earth. To engage with the audience, this system was presented in a game format, where the user had to implement these changes during a game day. Their goal was to keep their total energy consumption low.
