Mechanical Design

Main Structure and Manufacturing

The base structure of the product is constructed from seven 3/8'' Duron panels, laser cut to press fit to each other with a tolerance of 0.02". The front of the product has a slanted interaction panel that houses an LED matrix display, two buttons,  and a speed dial potentiometer to enable user input and provide feedback.

The LED and reflectance sensor tower is constructed from five identically manufactured panels that are pressed into the top of the base structure in the final design.  All wiring is housed comfortably within the walls of the base or the tower, and is organized with breadboards and assorted jumpers.

Vibration was suppressed with two 3D printed PLA components that were mounted around the motor and cleaning shaft. The DC motor stabilizer was fitted around the vertically mounted DC motor and glued to the bottom panel of the base structure to create rigidity. The cleaning shaft stabilizer was mounted to the top base panel and holds a bearing that the cleaning shaft is pressed through.

The product's overall dimensions are 30 x 25 x 30cm, making it portable and compact for any household, or mobile home placement.
