The Decibel Express is a "Flappy Bird"-inspired arcade game with a twist — players must avoid rotating train pipes using only the power of their voice. To start, players adjust the speed knob to control the difficulty of the game. Once ready, click the big green button to begin!
Pull out the Conductor's microphone and make noise to move the Conductor up and down and avoid the pipes. Be careful! Each collision counts towards the Hit Count, which determines the amount of gears dispensed at the end of the game. Both the Time Left and Hit Count are displayed on the LED Displays when the game is being played.
After a short calibration period for the microphone, obstacles will spin for a total of 60 seconds. If there is no player input for 20 seconds, the game ends. If the player hits no obstacles, they win 3 gears. Hitting 1-2 obstacles dispenses 2 gears, and 3 hits and more will dispense 1 gear.
Hit Count is tracked through sensing the deflection of the Conductor, which occurs when an obstacle is hit.
The louder the player's yell, the higher the Conductor moves. Analog and non-sensing.
Turning the knob adjusts the speed that the obstacles rotate, corresponding to the difficulty of the game.
The LED display tracks obstacles hit and time remaining, and it also shows start instructions and a game-over message.
3 Modes of Input: Potentiometer for speed controller, Button to initiate the game, and Microphone to control the conductor.
4 Modes of Feedback: Rotate Obstacles once game is active, LED Displays to indicate game progress, Servo motor controlling the conductor's height corresponding to the player's volume, and Gear Dispensing as a prize.
Decibel Express also utilizes the LEDs to display a welcoming message ("WELCOME! SCREAM TO JUMP!") and game over message ("GAME OVER!")
