Event Guidelines

We are excited to celebrate with you and your loved ones. Due to limited seating capacity, please be thoughtful of the number of ceremony guests you bring. Overflow seating will be available with limited shade. 

Commencement season is a time of celebration and accomplishment for our graduates. To honor the spirit and significance of this occasion, interruption of speakers or audience disruptions are not permitted.

The following is not permitted at the BioE commencement ceremony:

• No amplification equipment or noisemakers of any kind

• No signs or flier distribution

• No banners, flags or posters

For the safety of all guests, aisles must be kept clear at all times. Please refrain from standing or placing items in the aisles.

This event will be photographed. Official photographs may be taken by university staff for posting on Stanford websites and may be used in other university publications. By entering this event venue, you consent to Stanford University using your image and likeness.

Any attendee causing disruptions or found with items which are prohibited or otherwise restricted may be subject to removal from the venue.

Entering the venue shall be deemed consenting to all the above event guidelines and any other conditions set by Stanford University at its events.

Commencement Schedule & Regalia

Schedule 

3:00 p.m. – Arrive at Huang arcades. Graduating students, please pick up your name card in front of the Huang arcades in the SEQ. Our faculty readers will use the name card to announce your name when you confer your degree. Our BioE team will have a table set up for check in.

3:15 p.m. – Group photos in regalia. Undergraduates will take the 1st group photo, 2nd will be MS, 3rd will be PhD candidates, and lastly, our faculty.

3:30-3:50 p.m. – Graduates will be grouped by degree program (BS-BioE and BS-BMC, MS, and PhDs) to line up for the procession under the arcades in front of Huang.

4:00 p.m. – Procession and ceremony begin (Student Services will guide you to the tent on the lawn)

5:15-6:15 p.m. – Light reception

Regalia

Full Regalia must be worn to participate in the commencement ceremony (cap, gown, tassel, hood). Please do not bring any personal items with you (purses, jackets, etc.)

• MS students: please wear your hood. 

• PhD students: please do not wear your hood; carry it over your left arm. Further details will be emailed to PhD students for hooding instructions.
