The Stanford campus is located in Palo Alto, about 35 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose.
Airports
San Francisco International Airport (SFO): The most common gateway for visitors, located ~25 miles (35–45 minutes by car) from Stanford.
San Jose International Airport (SJC): A smaller but very convenient option, ~20 miles (25–30 minutes by car).
Oakland International Airport (OAK): Another option, ~30 miles (40–50 minutes by car), though with fewer direct transit routes to Stanford.
Ground Transportation
Rideshare: Lyft and Uber are widely available at all Bay Area airports and throughout Palo Alto, with short wait times and predictable pricing.
Waymo Autonomous Vehicles: Within San Francisco, Waymo driverless cars are operating and can be booked via the Waymo app, offering a unique Bay Area experience.
Public Transit: While Caltrain connects San Francisco and San Jose with stops in Palo Alto, and BART serves San Francisco and Oakland, point-to-point travel to Stanford often requires transfers, making it less direct for first-time visitors.
Rental Cars: Available at all airports, though not necessary if you plan to stay close to campus or rely on rideshare services.
Travel Tip: For most visitors, the simplest and fastest way from the airport to Stanford is a rideshare service directly to campus or your hotel.
We will be working on conference block rooms, and more information will be posted soon. Please note that while several hotels are located close to Stanford, none are realistically within walking distance of the conference venues on campus. Rideshare (Lyft, Uber) or rental car is the most reliable options for door-to-door transport.
