Covid-19 Reminders
You should bring your original Covid-19 vaccination card, as well as a paper copy and a digital copy (such as a photo of your vaccination card saved to your email or phone). Keep the original with your passport or photo ID.
If you haven’t already, email your Covid-19 vaccination information to your primary care physician so that it is added to your immunization record.
Check with your airline to see if it has any specific Covid-19 requirements in place (such as needing proof of vaccination, or if a negative Covid-19 test result is required within a certain timeframe prior to travel in order to fly).
Be sure to complete Stanford Travel/Study’s online Travel/Study Covid-19 Agreement and Vaccine Verification Form if you have not done so already.
In the best interest of the health of the group, we ask you to take a COVID-19 rapid or PCR test no more than 48 hours before joining the group. Please note that if you test positive and are unable to travel, you will be able to file a claim via the included trip insurance.
Many of you are arriving in Paris prior to the start of the trip and we ask you to be mindful of your activities and to do your best to join the trip healthy. We want a safe and enjoyable trip for all, and we appreciate your help in making this effort.
Whether you are arriving early or on the official arrival day, we ask that you test yourselves again before joining the group at our welcome reception on Sunday, September 4.
Although no longer required for returning to the U.S., past participants have found it helpful to bring self-tests that meet CDC Covid-19 testing. We suggest you bring two self-tests per person (one extra in case of invalid results).
Examples of providers include Azova, BinaxNow Covid, Cue COVID-19 Test for Home or OTC Use.
Please review the test kit instructions prior to departing home to make sure you have the correct web link to activate the kit and have downloaded the product’s app, if required, to receive your test results.
Other Reminders
If you have not already, be sure to check your passport to make sure it is valid for six months after your return date to the U.S. and that it has at least one completely blank visa page (not including the amendment pages at the back of the passport).
Get necessary immunizations and prophylaxes (refer to the health and medical section in the Trip Information tab of your trip’s website).
Notify your credit card company that you will soon be traveling, so that any significant charges you make will not be questioned or put on hold.
Transfer From the Airport
Airport transfers are included for all travelers arriving in Paris and transferring to the Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opera, regardless of arrival date. Note that you may be grouped with other travelers arriving on the same flight or at the same time. Please note that if you are taking an included transfer that arrives prior to September 4, a gratuity is not included for your driver. We recommend tipping about 20 euros for 1-2 people and about 30 euros for 3-4 people in a transfer.
After you claim your bags and exit customs, look for our local staff member, who will be holding a “Stanford Travel/Study” sign or a sign with your name. If you have difficulty finding your transfer for an arrival prior to September 4, please contact the tour operator’s 24 hour number at +1 844-382-2701. Please also call if your arrival information changes due to a flight delay/change of more than 30 minutes. On September 4 you may contact your Stanford Tour Manager, Lisa Hepps, at (650) 474-9008.
The place where you will meet your transfer driver at Charles de Gaulle Airport depends on your airline and the area of Terminal 2 into which your flight arrives, however all meeting points are inside the Arrivals Hall, after you pass through immigration, collect your luggage at the baggage claim and complete customs formalities. Please make a note of your specific meeting point, which you can find in the following list:

At the Hotel
Check-in time at the Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opera is 3:00 p.m. Luggage can be left with the bell captain if you arrive before your room is ready. There will be a brief, optional walking tour around the hotel to orient you to the neighborhood shortly before our welcome reception. The Stanford tour manager will inform you of the specific time earlier that day. Our first "real" group activity will be a welcome reception and dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 4. The room and location within the hotel will be announced upon your arrival.
The following packing list should help you prepare for the program. These are simply our suggestions; you will want to make your own variations.
* Pack these items in your carry-on luggage
In case one or more in your party need to isolate at the end of the trip, it is good to be prepared. Some suggestions of what to bring with you are:
additional supply of prescriptions (approx. 2 weeks worth)
materials to entertain you: books, movies, sudoku, crossword puzzles etc.
laptop or iPad to be able to access virtual meetings
a small supply of your favorite snacks/treats
check with the person who is collecting your mail or taking care of a pet, to see if they can extend their assistance.
a list of contacts you may need (travel agent, airline numbers etc.)
comfortable, broken-in walking shoes
light jacket
waterproof rain coat
dressier outfit(s) for welcome and farewell dinners; jacket and tie NOT required
bathing suit
day pack or backpack large enough to hold a snack, water, sunscreen, and whatever else you might need during the day.
wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
refillable water bottle
collapsible umbrella
voltage converters and plug adapters
small flashlight
travel alarm clock
plastic bags (Ziploc®) for storing toiletries, supplies and keeping camera equipment dry
money belt
travel sewing kit
TSA-approved luggage locks
extra pair of eyeglasses or contacts*
sunscreen and lip protection
anti-bacterial gel or towelettes
tissues (small travel packs)
blister prevention & treatment products
Aspirin®/Tylenol®, etc.
cold remedies
anti-diarrheals (Imodium AD® and/or Pepto Bismol®)
prescription medications (in their original containers)* note that we recommend you bring an additional weeks' worth of any prescription medication you are taking in case you test positive for Covid-19 and must isolate before returning to the U.S.
You should pack an ample supply of N95 or KN95 (or the European equivalent FFP2) masks to last you throughout the program. The use of cloth masks is generally discouraged. The CDC offers a guide to masks, which you can access on their website, here.
While Covid-19 testing is available in Paris, you may want to bring several rapid self-tests to have on hand, for ease of access and your own peace of mind. You can read more about self-tests on the CDC website, here.
We also recommend you pack a personal supply of liquid hand sanitizer and/or sanitizing wipes.
passport*
