Joe Hicken - Joe Hicken serves as the Senior Vice President of Business Development and Policy at Sublime Systems, a company that is developing a breakthrough electrochemical process for manufacturing low-carbon cement. He is responsible for leading the company's efforts to engage with national and industry leaders to reduce CO2 emissions by promoting low-embodied carbon construction materials.
Before joining Sublime Systems, Hicken spent six years in the climate technology sector. This included a period at Aclima, Inc., where he was the Vice President of Policy from 2020 to 2022 and Director of Strategy and Business Development from 2018 to 2020. Earlier in his career, Hicken spent a decade in Washington, D.C., working as a political appointee in the Obama Administration at the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Pentagon. He also served as a staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Hicken holds bachelor's degrees in political science and psychology from the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego), which he received between 2002 and 2006. As a prominent advocate for clean manufacturing, he represents Sublime Systems at various events, including the Stanford Energy Seminar. He is also involved with the Decarbonized Cement and Concrete Working Group (DC2).
