The Stanford Natural Gas Initiative invites you to join us for our Annual Symposium on October 9th and 10th, 2024. We will bring together speakers and participants from industry, government, academia, and non-governmental organizations to discuss critical issues related to natural gas.
October 9th: Bridging the Gap from Methane Measurements to Emissions Mitigation
Over the last decade much has been learned about methane emissions - the volumes of methane being released through various pathways, the associated climate impact, and how we can effectively detect and measure methane in a variety of settings.
Join us to discuss the challenges and opportunities for deploying detection technologies at scale and the actions required to massively reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas system. We will also explore the changing regulatory environment that is moving toward measurement-based reporting schemes and the impact of having visibility into global emissions on a high-frequency basis through the deployment of satellites with remote sensing technology.
Discussion Topics:
The evolving methane regulatory landscape in the US and globally
How is the US methane fee translating to emissions reductions
Outlook for upstream capital deployment and production
Global methane monitoring systems and impact on emissions
How will methane regulations impact global trade patterns
October 10: Reliable and Affordable Energy in an Electrifying World
The energy transition requires transforming our energy systems at scale and at speed. The rapid deployment of renewables in many locations has raised concerns about reliability and resilience of energy supply. In this world of rapidly expanding renewables and increasing electrification, what role remains for the natural gas system? How quickly will electrification and renewables affect gas demand? In what sectors or regions will gas still play an important role during this transition? .
At this event, we will host a conversation that focuses on leveraging the natural gas system and the deployment of new technologies to support intermittent renewables.
Panel Discussion Topics:
The policy and technology landscape for gas in an electrifying world
Coordinating gas and electricity markets
What have aggressive renewable energy build-outs meant for gas so far?
Demand Flexibility and Storage
Invited guests will receive location details in a confirmation email after registration.
