"The Examen—The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius"
In the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius, the Spiritual Examen is a valuable aid to prayer. Over the years I have found the Examen has led me into a deeper relationship with God and has helped my prayer life. It is very much part of my daily prayer life. No matter where I am or what I do, I can always make the connections with God, to see and contemplate His presence in my actions, thoughts and conversations. Through the Examen I have a conversation with God.) It helps me develop a reflective habit of mind that enables me to become sensitive to God everywhere and perceive God all the time. According to Jean Clift “each day is a journey and the journey itself is home.” The Examen has helped me to recognize that I communicate with God through my emotions also. As Jim Manney says, “God appears in the whisper of our Spirit-guided memories, thoughts and feelings.” ( A SimpleLife-Changing prayer, 2011, p26) I believe each emotion is a story about us. Behind each emotion, there is a message to tell us who we are. They are best allies for our personal growth. Through my reflection in the daily Examen I experienced God through nature, people, my emotions, situations especially in my life as a priest in the service of the Church. The Examen is easy to follow, and I would recommend you incorporate into your practice of daily prayer.
This is a version of the five-step Daily Examen that St. Ignatius practiced.
1. Become aware of God’s presence.
2. Review the day with gratitude.
3. Pay attention to your emotions.
4. Choose one feature of the day and pray from it.
5. Look toward tomorrow.

Collection to Support the Seminary
This weekend we will hold our annual second collection for the Seminarian Education Fund. The fund provides support for the training and education of men studying for priesthood in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The fund helps to cover the cost to educate each archdiocesan seminarian as they proceed through the various stages of formation before ordination as a priest for Chicago. Please support this appeal during the collection or donate by visiting https://www.givecentral.org/customizable-online-giving/299/event/26887

Over the summer, the front steps of the school were upgraded after years of deterioration. This was made possible through the incredible support of donors who began their work at the annual Wearin' the Green Fund-a-need.
After review by our Facilities and Construction Committee, the contract was awarded to Ward Contracting and Building Restoration, Inc, the contractor with the lowest proposal of $79,865.00. Per Archdiocese of Chicago best practices, a required 10% contingency of $7,986.50 was added to the proposal. amount. Once the old steps had been removed, it was apparent that the piers that hold up the steps were going to need more work than what was initially estimated. This resulted in a $6,024.25 change order increase, making the final total cost of the school steps $85,889.25. The complete financial report of the project has been completed. Please take a moment to read the report by clicking here.
