CCC (Catechism of the Catholic Church), paragraph, 2562, says
“Where does prayer come from? Whether prayer is expressed in words gestures, it is the whole man who prays. But in naming the source of prayer, Scripture speaks sometimes of the soul or the spirit, but most often of the heart (more than a thousand times). According to Scripture, it is the heart that prays. If our heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain.”
CCC 2563: The heart is the dwelling-place where I am, where I live; according to the Semitic of Biblical expression, the heart is the place “to which I withdraw.” The heart is our hidden center, beyond the grasp of our reason and of others; only the Spirit of God can fathom the human heart and know it fully. The heart is the place of decision, deeper than our psychic drives. It is the place of truth, where we choose life or death. It is the place of encounter, because as the image of God we live in relation: it is the place of covenant.
CCC 2564: Christian prayer is a covenant relationship between God and man in Christ. It is the action of God and of man, springing forth from both the Holy Spirit and ourselves, wholly directed to the Father, in union with the human will of the Son of God made man.
CCC 2560: “If you knew the gift of God” (Jn 4:10) The wonder of prayer is revealed beside the well where we come seeking water: there, Christ comes to meet every human being. It is he who first seeks us and asks us for a drink. Jesus thirsts; his asking arises from the depths of God’s desire for us. Whether we realize it or not, prayer is the encounter of God’s thirst with ours. God thirsts that we may thirst for him (St. Augustine).
All Saints Day is celebrated on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Mass will be celebrated in the main church at 9:00am.
All Souls Day is the day we remember all our beloved dead. This year, the solemnity falls on Sunday, November 2, 2025 which means that all Sunday Masses will celebrate the solemnity. In a particular way, we will honor those who have died in in the parish during the past year at the 9:00am Mass on Sunday, November 2. Parishioners are invited to bring photos of loved ones who have died to place on our altar of remembrance. Their names will be called out and candles will be lit for them during the Mass. If you would like a name and photo included and are not able to attend the Mass, please email david@standrew.org who will include the remembrance on your behalf.
Our Used Book and Bake Sale will take place this Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 9-4pm in our gymnasium. Nothing beats the thrill of finding a hidden gem for the price of a cup of coffee! Plus, you're not just buying a book—you’re supporting the class of 2026 and giving a second life to stories that deserve to be read.
