Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
"If you have faith the size of a mustard seed; you would say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you" Luke 17:5
The parish office is open from 8:00am to 7:00pm Monday thru Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays, and from 9:00am to noon on Sundays.
"Yes, we can 'increase our faith,’ if we just graciously and humbly accept the overwhelming gift of Faith that we have already received from our persistent and loving Lord!"
“The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’” Indeed, Lord, increase our faith!
We have just completed the never-ending birthday celebration for our granddaughter, Grace. First, there was the sleepover party with some friends. Then, there was the birthday celebration in her kindergarten class, where Rita was invited to read stories to them. Next, the weekend trip to Aunt and Uncle, Grandma and Pappa for their gift exchange. Finally, our celebration at a pizza place and our gifts. Overwhelming! Was she still able to receive yet another gift?
As Grace began opening our gifts, she became very excited with one gift. It was a Discovery terrarium kit. Unlike her other gifts, she was so intrigued by the potential, but it would be a challenge to comprehend its full potential. Just as her past year’s gift of crystal growing, she could see the potential, but only later was overjoyed by what she discovered. Of course, each of these gifts would require parental assistance to help encourage her to discover the beauty within.
Faith is a gift. A gracious, generous gift from our Lord. A gift that we can receive, but can’t fully comprehend. Yet, if we receive with an open and humble heart, we find that although our faith is but the size of a mustard seed, still it grows. And by the 'parental' assistance of the Lord, we discover that we grow in our awareness of Jesus’ presence in our lives. Not a gift that is expected or earned, but freely offered to each of us. It is Jesus’ gift of love with the potential of growing into a full and intimate relationship with him.
Yes, we can “increase our faith,” if we just graciously and humbly accept the overwhelming gift of Faith that we have already received from our persistent and loving Lord!
In honor of the memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, we will hold our annual blessing of pets next Saturday, October 8, 2021 at 11:00am. Bring your dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, or other beloved pet to the steps of the church to have them blessed. May they always remind us of our responsibility to care for and nurture all of God's creation.
