Matthew 4:26-34 - Service in the Little Things of Daily Life
In today’s Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the seed to describe the Kingdom of God. He explains that although the mustard seed is tiny, once it grows, it becomes a large tree where birds can find shelter.
God often invites us to participate in building His Kingdom through the seemingly insignificant details of our daily lives. Faced with our own smallness, we may feel our faith and abilities are negligible—like a mustard seed—yet Jesus assures us that the Holy Spirit is at work within and through our faith. At times, our hope may also seem as small as a mustard seed; however, the parable teaches us that even this tiny amount of hope is enough for the Lord to accomplish great things. He will ensure that our efforts ultimately bear abundant fruit.
Sometimes, we must learn to be content with the small seeds we can sow, trusting that they will bear fruit in amazing ways that align with God’s will. The origins of the Kingdom are often incredibly humble and simple—it sprouts within the life of each individual. We need to learn to cherish the little things and small acts of kindness in life. In our daily lives, God does not ask us to be heroes or martyrs. Instead, He calls us to bring dignity, love, and hope to everyone we encounter—whether through great deeds or small gestures. Whenever we extend a friendly hand to those in need, offer a welcoming smile to the lonely, show genuine care to the hopeless, or bring a touch of joy to a suffering heart, we are sowing seeds of the Kingdom. God’s Kingdom is revealed through each of us—in big things and small, at any time and place, all according to God’s own timing and rhythm.
Our faith opens our hearts and leads us to submit to His will. When we act in this way, even if we cannot foresee or witness the outcome, we proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom to others through our words and deeds. May our goodwill, love, and respect allow God’s Kingdom to be present in everyone we meet today and throughout the coming week.
Priests have dedicated their lives to ministry, serving our needs as Catholics from the moment we are baptized until we receive last rites before entering eternal life. There will be a second collection at all the Masses on the weekend of June 13/14 for the Priests’ Health and Retirement/PRMAA fund. It will provide for the health and well-being of 365 active and 251 retired archdiocesan priests. Thank you for your generosity. To make a donation directly to the fund visit https://shorturl.at/Uy5tU
All parishioners and families are warmly invited to participate in a reverent Eucharistic Procession honoring Jesus Christ truly present in the Holy Eucharist. May this sacred time of prayer and witness deepen our devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and strengthen our faith as a community. The process will start with the noon Mass on Sunday, June 14th at St Benedict Church. Fr. Ryan will celebrate Mass and Fr. Hank will preach. We will process from St Benedict Parish, on the sidewalks of our shared community, to Saint Andrew Church.
