"I have arrived at St. Andrew and have started to settle-in."
Happy Fourth of July weekend!
I arrived at St. Andrew last Tuesday and have started to settle-in. I’m still getting my bearings around the parish and learning the neighborhoods around us, but it is exciting to be here. As a way of getting to know you better please feel free to introduce yourself when you see me, know that I’m happy to come by and bless your home, and if the Cub’s game happens to be on that night let me know!
On this important weekend for our country, I offer a simple meditation on Freedom. It is from God that we have our freedom, specifically our free-will. A gift that God does not revoke even when we stray far from Him in our sins. And so, we should celebrate this weekend the freedom we enjoy in America. Some of the freedoms that I enjoy through various hobbies include drawing & painting, watching movies, backpacking trips up in the Boundary Waters, hunting, watching the Cubs, cigars and enjoying a cold one with friends.
God has blessed us with many natural joys in life to share with family and friends, and these are meant to be delighted in, and at the same time recognize the gift that they truly are. I hope you have an opportunity this weekend to enjoy memorable moments with family and friends on this celebratory weekend. Remember always that God wills our happiness; His creation was meant to be delighted in.
Though let us not take the gift as something greater than the Giver Himself. All are but a reflection of the greater good that is the Lord. Recall the words of Our Lord Jesus, “if you who are sinful know how to give good gifts to your children, then all the more does your Father in heaven know how to bestow good gifts” on those who follow in His way.
May Our Lord Jesus bless your week ahead!
