"The Significance of The Epiphany"
The Feast of the Epiphany tells us that Christ is revealed not just to a chosen few, but to all nations. The Magi come from distant lands, guided by a star, crossing borders and dangers in search of truth and light. From the very beginning, the story of Jesus reaches beyond one people or place—it is global, inclusive, and hopeful.
Yet the Gospel also reminds us that the light of Christ enters a troubled world. Herod responds to the birth of Jesus not with joy, but with fear and violence. That tension remains familiar today. Our world is still marked by conflict—wars between nations, divisions within societies, and fear of the “other.” Power is often defended through force rather than through justice or compassion.
Against this darkness, Epiphany proclaims a quiet but powerful truth: God’s light cannot be overcome. The star does not dazzle; it guides. The child in the manger does not conquer by weapons, but by love. The Magi do not return the same way—they are changed, choosing a different path. This is what encounter with Christ does: it redirects lives.
In our own time, Epiphany challenges us to be bearers of that light. Where there is conflict, we are called to be peacemakers. Where there is fear, we are called to choose trust and solidarity. Where there is indifference to suffering—especially of the poor, migrants, and victims of war—we are called to act with compassion. In a world where right and wrong are reversed and chaos reigns,we need to "live wisely," navigating life with discernment and values, rather than simply reacting to the chaos around us.
The light revealed at Epiphany still shines. It asks not whether darkness exists, but whether we are willing, like the Magi, to follow the light and to reflect it in a broken world.
We are in need of additional help at our liturgies in the distribution of the Eucharist. Please consider serving as an Extra-ordinary Minister of Communion by joining us for the training on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 7:00pm in the main church. Contact Deacon Mark at mark@standrew.org to express interest and reserve your place at the training.
If you were not able to have a sitting with Universal Photo Studios to have your photo taken for the parish and school, you can still have your photo included in the directory. The cost is $15 and for participating, you will also get a parish directory. Complete the online form and upload your photo to be included.
All women of the parish are warmly invited to join our new Women’s Group, which meets every Wednesday at 9:45 AM in the Church following the school Mass. It’s a welcoming, multigenerational group where we share faith, prayer, and fellowship—babies and toddlers are always welcome!
We’ll resume meetings on Wednesday, January 7.
