Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday
"They found the stone rolled away from the tomb." Luke 24:2
The parish offices will be closed on Easter Monday, April 10, 2023.
On Tuesday, the parish office will return to its normal hours of 8:00am to 7:00pm Monday thru Friday, from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturdays, and from 9:00am to noon on Sundays.
"It’s humbling to think that we are the good thing in God’s life, which God never wants to end."
With eight nieces and nephews, I quickly learned that if I played a game with them, they would want to play the game over and over. They would simply say, “again!” Repetition of the game never seemed to tire them. It was always a good thing for them, and they never wanted it to end. I must admit though, I often tried to find a way to end the game for fear I’d have to repeat the game, 10, 20, or 30 times!
The Church views Easter as a good thing that we don’t want to end too soon. That’s why the Church takes 50 days to celebrate Easter and to unpack this great gift and mystery of our faith. Over the next 7 weeks we will continue to hear at Mass accounts of Jesus appearing to his disciples after his resurrection. We will also hear from the Acts of the Apostles of the tremendous impact those encounters with the risen Lord had on the early Church. Beyond the 50 days of the Easter season, every Sunday is like a mini-Easter, regardless if it’s during Lent, Advent, Christmas or Ordinary Time. We are always celebrating Easter.
But, as we gather with family and friends on Easter Sunday, we may already be looking for a way out of our celebrations. This past week I went shopping for some Easter candy to have on hand for my family’s celebration. I was disappointed to see that there wasn’t much Easter candy left to buy. Most of it had already been bought, and the stores had no intention of getting any more. They were ready to move on.
It makes sense that we are ready to put away the Easter decorations for next year. But, the gift of eternal life, which Easter brings, is not something that ends, or can be put away. It is always with us, regardless of the time of year. It’s God’s pledge of never ending love, to be with us for for ever. God never tires of loving us, or being in our lives, or having us in his. It’s humbling to think that we are the good thing in God’s life, which God never wants to end. Christ died and rose from the dead so that sin and death would no longer end the good thing we have with God!
As you gather with family and friends, may you have a Blessed and Joyous Easter. I pray that all of us will fully appreciate what we celebrate today. Like children at play, may we also find ourselves saying, over and over, “again!”
God bless!
Fr. Sergio
Sunday Evening Mass Returns Next Week!
If your schedule finds an unfortunate amount of activity in it on Sunday mornings, you're not alone. Many people find sports games, travel, brunch with visiting friends and more popping up in their planners on Sunday morning. Don't let it be a reason to miss Mass! Saint Andrew is restoring its Sunday evening Mass to a new time of 5:00pm starting Sunday, April 16, 2023. Come join us and invite others too!
Saint Andrew Parish depends on the generosity of individuals like who you support our mission. At Easter, we ask for a significant financial contribution in one of our most important appeals of the year. The Easter collection is critical to our ongoing operations, especially with the increased costs impacting the parish due to inflation. Donations can be made during the Sunday Masses or online through Give Central at https://www.givecentral.org/location/299/event/21809. Thank you for your generosity.

Knights of Columbus Update

Thank you to all who signed up over the last few weeks and donated blood at our St. Andrew and Knights of Columbus 1st Blood Drive. The lives of many mothers fathers, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers and sisters will be saved because of your generosity. We had a total of 27 units donated and since every donation can help save up to 3 patients, our Drive will help save up to 81 area patients. Our donated blood will be used in many ways, such as for patients with serious injuries such as in a car crash, surgeries, child birth, anemia, blood disorders, cancer treatments, chemotherapy, liver failure, severe infections, and serious burns. Thank you to everyone for making the drive a success.
The Knights of Columbus are hosting a membership drive entitled "Into the Breach" in conjunction with St. Benedict Parish Knights on Sunday, April 6, 2023 at 1:00pm. All are encouraged to attend including wives and significant others. Refer to the invitation card passed out during Mass for more information.
