"The Example Of The Good Shepherd."
Good Shepherd Sunday reminds us that we as Christians are called to be Shepherds to one another to show special care for those facing difficult circumstances or lacking support, and to guide those who have lost their way or gone astray back to the right path. Jesus says: "I know my sheep, and my sheep know me." Jesus knows us even better than we know ourselves; He invites us to establish an intimate and personal relationship with Him. Unlike the "hired hands" who work merely for wages, Jesus' love and compassion for us are inexhaustible and unwavering. Even if we turn our backs on Him, or even walk away from Him, He will never abandon us. Just as a shepherd searches far and wide for a lost sheep, Jesus spares no effort in seeking us out. Mercy and compassion lie at the very heart of Jesus' mission. As followers of the "Good Shepherd," mercy and compassion ought to be the guiding principles at the very center of how we relate to and interact with one another.
In the eyes of the "Good Shepherd," no sheep is ever abandoned—unless, like the "hired hand," they choose to walk away of their own accord. The challenge facing our world today is this: We must make space to listen to the voice of the "Shepherd" who is seeking us out and is dedicated to leading us back to our Heavenly Father. This "Good Shepherd" knows the deepest pains and longings of our hearts. When we lose our way, He comes to where we are to find us, drawing us into the embrace of His holy presence. Therefore, on this "Good Shepherd Sunday," we pray for the grace to always maintain an open heart, to follow the guidance of Jesus, and to grow ever deeper in compassion; in this way, we too may become Good Shepherd's to one another.
With both gratitude for service and sadness in the anticipated parting, we announce the news that Chris O'Malley, our parish office manager for over 14 years, has decided to retire in the coming weeks/months. There is no specific date assigned as she has committed to remain as our office manager until a replacement can be found, which we have only begun in light of her announcement.
Chris has been instrumental in the success of Saint Andrew Parish over the years. She always greeted visitors with a smile and kept callers connected and emails sent to the right person. She helped the parish navigate the COVID pandemic and worked hard through health and infirmity. We will miss her ever-kind presence and wish her well in retirement (but not just yet). Please be sure to send her a word of thanks and gratitude when you have a moment.
Over the last few weeks, we have been working to update our parish records through a census. You may have received an email or a postcard that showed to you what information we had on file for you and what information still needs to be filled. In particular, if there were errors or missing information, we are asking for you to log onto our information portal at www.standrew.org/updateinfo and update your information. To log in, you will need a user ID and PIN number. These were sent to you via email or postcard. If you do not have one, please contact David Heimann at David@standrew.org to inquire how to log in or call the office at 773-525-3016.
If you do not have a profile within our parish records, this is your invitation to register so that we can better communicate with you and support your standing in the Church when called upon to do so. Register at https://standrew.org/online-parish-registration/

Totus Tuus is a summer, week-long Catholic youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, apologetics, Christian witness, the sacraments, Marian devotion and Eucharistic worship for students entering grades one through 12. The program strives to help young people understand their faith through catechesis, so they may live in today’s world through a “parish mission” for the young students of the parish, all with a strong emphasis on fun. Totus Tuus will be offered at Saint Andrew Parish from June 22 to June 26. To find out more, visit our webpage at https://standrew.org/post/totus-tuus-2026/
