Second Sunday of Easter
Second Sunday of Easter
"His mercy endures forever!" Psalm 118:2
The parish office is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm, on Saturdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Join us for Mass every weekend at the 4:00 pm (vigil) Mass on Saturday, or on Sunday at 9:00am, 11:00am, or 5:00pm.
"The celebration continues"
Are you still celebrating Easter?
To be honest, my reaction on the afternoon of Easter Sunday is often a sense of relief. Holy Week, the Triduum, and Easter Sunday are all magnificent liturgies, and I love being a part of the celebration, but by the end of the week, I'm tired. Easter afternoon is a perfect time for a nap!
But after Easter (and Christmas, too!) the Church keeps celebrating. First we have a week-long (technically, 8 days) celebration of the Octave of Easter, when the Church celebrates the joyous event of the resurrection. We then continue the Easter season concluding with Pentecost, which this year is on May 24.
So culturally it may seem like the party is over, but the Church extends it so we can fully appreciate the depth of the mystery of our salvation. During the Octave of Easter the daily Mass readings continue the resurrection story so that we can ponder the reality that Jesus' road to Calvary wasn't the end of the story. Holy Week takes us on a roller coaster ride of emotions, from the boisterous entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the intimate gathering of the Last Supper to the Crucifixion on Good Friday. Sadness, confusion and mystery surround these days. That's often easy to relate to, since we've all experienced those emotions in our daily lives. But the story continues, both for Jesus and ourselves, because rather than an ending, Calvary was a new beginning, and that's what we celebrate each day of the Octave. We don't end up in confusion, but instead of the certainty of God's love and everlasting care.
That's why we continue to celebrate. Today, we've reached the Octave Day, which is Divine Mercy Sunday. This feast that reminds us that God has infinite mercy for his creation.
Yes, we're still celebrating Easter. One day isn't enough to capture the depth of joy and the mystery of God's mercy. We may still need a nap after Holy Week, but the celebration continues.
God Bless!
-Deacon Mark

Totus Tuus is a summer, week-long Catholic youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, apologetics, Christian witness, the sacraments, Marian devotion and Eucharistic worship for students entering grades one through 12. The program strives to help young people understand their faith through catechesis, so they may live in today’s world through a “parish mission” for the young students of the parish, all with a strong emphasis on fun. Totus Tuus will be offered at Saint Andrew Parish from June 22 to June 26. To find out more, visit our webpage at https://standrew.org/post/totus-tuus-2026/
All women of the parish are warmly invited to join our new Women’s Group, which meets every Wednesday at 9:45am in the Church following the school Mass. It’s a welcoming, multigenerational group where we share faith, prayer, and fellowship—babies and toddlers are always welcome!
