" An Easter People "
As Holy Week is fast approaching my thoughts and reflections go to the events of that week and in particular to Jesus and what it meant for him. He was betrayed and abandoned by those he loved and who he had chosen to be His disciples. He was handed over by His own people to a cruel occupant force where he suffered humiliation, cruelty and ultimately death on a cross. Christ embraced His suffering and even offered forgiveness from the cross, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they do.”
I am also reflecting on the many forms of suffering we as human beings go through. Look at our world today the numbers of innocent lives including children which are lost because of senseless wars and the ambition of ruthless leaders. Sufferings takes many forms be it financial hardship, illness, broken relationships, lack of confidence, poor self image. The list is endless and all of us at some point in our lives will face our own unique form of suffering none of us will escape suffering. Perhaps as you read this you are experiencing a difficulty in your life and feeling lost and alone. This past year my mother died back home in China and for several reasons I was unable to go home for her funeral and to be with my family as we mourned her passing. Very recently my sister who is a religious Sister suffered a stroke and once again I would like to be with her but I am unable to do so. At this time I feel the pain of loss and separation. However, I know that even in my pain I am not alone Christ is with me in my prayer and in my friends here who offered me their support. While suffering is part of life it is not the whole of life even if at times it seems so. After Holy Week came the Resurrection when hope was restored. We may never fully understand why we suffer or why suffering exists but in the fullness of time it will be revealed to us. Let us not be afraid to share our suffering with the Crucified and Resurrected Jesus who seeks to be our friend.
Recently I came across a short reflection entitled Healing, I have drawn great comfort from it. I now share it with you for what it is worth hoping that you too may draw comfort.
Healing begins when you open your heart…
Healing begins when you become willing to dream more that one dream…when you are willing to accept the life being held out to you, which may not be the life you had in mind…
Healing begins when you are able to see beauty in exactly what you were given …
Healing begins when you know within you something greater than what you are facing…
Healing begins when you are willing to tolerate pain in order to grow… when you choose to love in ways you have never loved before…
Healing begins when you make a commitment to heal…
Healing is a deep Yes to your life…
We are called to be an Easter People so let us pray for that gift this Easter. Wishing you a Happy and Blessed Easter.
Please make plans to join us for the celebration of the Paschal Mystery and our holiest time of the year.

The tradition of fasting during Lent allows us to draw from our abundance and have the personal resource for greater almsgiving. Financial contributions, in particular, are traditionally offered during the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. This year, our parish will dedicate the Holy Thursday collection to Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Changes in USAID policies have impacted CRS's efforts to support refugees, making our collective Lenten almsgiving more essential than ever in serving the most vulnerable around the world. If you are unable to attend the Holy Thursday Mass, you are encouraged to make a Lenten almsgiving contribution to CRS at https://www.givecentral.org/customizable-online-giving/299/event/33489.
