Welcome to my Special Day Class K-2 for children with special needs! Our Room 25 is located on the Bernard Hughes Elementary School campus in the Empire Union School District and is served by the Stanislaus County Office of Education. .
I began working for the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) in 1998, and I joined the wonderful Bernard Hughes Elementary School community in 2012. In 2019 I was honored with a prestigious Bridge Builder Award from SCOE, a Teacher of the Year Award from ABC10, and a MAMA Music Award -I am also a performing musician and I have traveled and played in countries around the world.
This year my class has 9 students, which are served by myself and 5 dedicated para professionals. Our class employs several teaching methodologies including Discrete Trial Training, Direct Instruction, Fluency and Precision Teaching, and more.
Our classroom management plan employs the effective and proven strategies of Applied Behavior Analysis, and seeks to provide a positive and safe learning environment that meets the needs of each individual student.
You might not be able to tell from the picture to the left- but I view humor, laughter, and mental flexibility as essentials elements for maintaining a healthy classroom.
Oh- and I have a soft spot for Dad Puns. The more groans, the better!
