Term 1 Overview

Here is an overview of what we will be learning in Term 1 and some ideas on what you can do at home to support your child with their learning.

Literacy

In Reading the children will be placed in Reading Groups (book club groups). In these groups the children will focus on their individual needs within reading. There will be a large focus on inferring- that is what is the author trying to tell us without writing it down.
In Writing the children will begin the year exploring and developing their persuasive writing skills. They will learn new strategies to develop their written arguments and counter arguments.

Maths

The children will begin the year reviewing place value by recognising, modelling and ordering numbers. We will begin to explore decimals working towards being able to add and subtract decimal numbers. The students will be taught to use mental strategies and written computation to add and subtract decimal and whole numbers. We will also work on solving problems across the 4 operations (+ - x and division). Finally we will explore number sequences involving fractions and whole and decimal numbers.

Inquiry

Religion

In Religion the children will explore the topics of Belonging, Eucharist, Reconciliation and Lent. The children will learn about how we are all part of the Church and how the Church

SEL

Social & Emotional Learning

We will be using the Respectful Relationships Program to explore the topics of Emotional Literacy and Personal Strengths. Students will describe different ways to express emotions and the relationship between emotionsand behaviour.
At home -talk with your child about their emotions-discuss ways to manage intense emotions (e.g calm down space, deep breaths)
