President—The duties of the president shall be
to call and preside at all general, local council and executive meetings of this local association,
to exercise general supervision over the affairs of this local association, and
to serve as a local representative to representative assemblies.
Vice-President—The duties of the vice-president shall be
to take charge of the affairs of this local association in the absence of the president,
to assist the president in the discharge of duties, and
to serve as a local representative to the annual representative assembly.
Past President—The duties of the past president shall be
to provide advice and counsel to the executive,
to be responsible for constitutional review, and
to preside over the nominations committee.
Secretary—The duties of the secretary shall be
to keep accurate records of all proceedings of this association,
to bring before the executive committee of this association all communications received by the local,
to prepare and send to The Alberta Teachers’ Association such statements and reports as may be required from time to time, and
to prepare and send notices calling all meetings, whether regular, special, local council or executive committee.
Treasurer—The duties of the treasurer shall be
to prepare at the direction of the executive committee an annual budget for the local,
to keep accurate records of the monies received and collected and to take charge of same,
to prepare an annual financial statement for provincial review, and
to make the necessary disbursements of the funds of this local association as authorized by the executive committee or local council.
Local Representatives—The duties of each local representative of this local association shall be
to represent this local association at all representative assemblies of The Alberta Teachers’ Association,
to report the proceedings of all the representative assemblies to the local council and to such other gatherings as may be decided,
to attend meetings of the local council of this local association, and
to attend general meetings of this local association.
School Representatives—The duties of the school representatives shall include reporting on the activities of the local council to their respective staffs and such other duties as are requested by the local council or the provincial association.
Communications Officer—It shall be the responsibility of this officer to carry out a communications program with the teachers in the local and between the local and its various publics. All actions of this officer shall be subject to prior approval by the executive of the local involved.
Principal Representative—The duty of the principal representative is to assist in the conduct of the affairs of the local. The principal representative shall be elected by district principals prior to September 20 of the school year.
Local Political Engagement Officer—The primary role of the local political engagement officer is to establish, participate in, sustain and expand active networks of politically involved and engaged teachers in our local and provincially.
Standing committees shall be established to assist in the conduct of the affairs of the local.
Teacher Welfare Committee shall consist of
one member elected by each school staff.

It shall be the duty of the Teacher Welfare Committee to
gather and study data related to the collective agreement,
prepare proposed amendments to the collective agreement for the consideration of the members of this local,
report to and advise executive and local council as necessary, and
establish subcommittees.
Negotiating Subcommittee—The Negotiating Subcommittee shall consist of
the chair of the Teacher Welfare Committee and
two other members chosen from and by the Teacher Welfare Committee.
It shall be the duty of the Negotiating Subcommittee to engage in collective bargaining with the board of trustees.
Interpretation Committee—A member of the previous Negotiating Subcommittee shall serve on the Interpretation Committee as outlined in the collective agreement.
Professional Development Committee—The Professional Development Committee shall consist of
the chair elected by the local,
one representative for each school staff, and
one representative for all certificated staff not assigned to a school.
It shall be the duty of the Professional Development Committee to assume general responsibility for professional development programs undertaken by this local association
The chair shall maintain accurate records of professional development activities, including monies received and expended and report to each meeting of executive and local council.
Staff representatives are responsible for attending committee and local council meetings, reporting to staffs, representing staff concerns and assisting in the discharge of committee responsibilities.
Public Relations Committee—The Public Relations Committee shall consist of
the chair elected by the local,
one representative for each school staff, and
one representative for all certificated staff not assigned to a school.
It shall be the duty of the Public Relations Committee
to assume general responsibility for public relations programs undertaken by this local association; and
the chair shall maintain accurate records of public relations activities, including monies received and expended and report to each meeting of executive and local council; and
staff representatives are responsible for attending committee and local council meetings, reporting to staffs, representing staff concerns and assisting in the discharge of committee responsibilities.
Policy Review Committee—The Policy Review Committee shall consist of
vice-president of the local as chair,
one representative of each school staff, and
one representative of the Teacher Welfare Committee.
It shall be the duty of the Policy Review Committee
to meet as necessary to discuss issues and concerns including, but not limited to, policy development and interpretation,
to report to and advise executive and local council; and
the chair shall maintain accurate records of committee activities and report to each meeting of executive and local council; and
staff representatives are responsible for attending committee and local council meetings, reporting to staffs, representing staff concerns and assisting in the discharge of committee responsibilities.
Other committees shall be established as necessary to assist in the conduct of the affairs of the local.
Finance Committee—The Finance Committee shall consist of
the treasurer,
the vice-president of the local, and
one other member elected from the local council.
Nominations Committee—The Nominations Committee shall consist of
the past president of the local and
one representative of the local elected by local council.
It shall be the duty of the Nominations Committee to present a slate of officers for the election at a general meeting in May of each year.
The slate shall be prepared and forwarded to each school within the local before April 15 midnight.
Further nominations will be accepted by the committee until midnight, April 30.
The full slate of nominations will be sent to each school within the local before the first Wednesday in May.
Such other committees as the local may appoint from time to time.
Representatives shall be elected to and by local council to assist in the conduct of the affairs of the local.
Staff Representatives—Staff representatives to local council shall be elected by each school staff within the local by September 20 of each year. It shall be the duty of the staff representatives to
report on the activities of the local council to their respective school staffs,
communicate to local council any concerns raised by their respective school staffs, and
file at their school a copy of the minutes of each general and local council meeting.
Convention Association Representatives—Convention Association Representatives shall be elected by local council before March 31 of each year. It shall be the duty of the Convention Representatives to serve as members of North Central Teachers’ Convention Association and act as liaison with this local association.
Employee Assistance Committee Representative—One representative to the Employee Assistance Program Steering Committee shall be elected by local council by June 1 of each year. It shall be the duty of this representative to
assist in the administration of the Employee Assistance Program and
report to executive and local council as necessary.
Field Experiences Committee Representative—One representative to the Edmonton Area Field Experiences Committee shall be nominated by the local before June 1 of each year. It shall be the duty of this representative to
serve on the said committee and
report to executive and local council as necessary.
Organizational Health Representative—One representative to the Organizational Health committee shall be elected by local council at the general meeting of each year. It shall be the duty of this representative to
serve on the said committee and
report to the executive and local council as necessary.
Representatives to such other organizations and gatherings as may be determined from time to time by the local council.
A Local Communications Officer shall be appointed by the executive. It shall be the duty of this officer to
improve communications within the local,
enhance the public professional image of the local, and
attend and report to meetings of executive and local council.
