Library Happenings

OVERDUES...

As the end of the semester quickly approaches, please encourage students to return any overdues or renew them.

  • Just a quick reminder that school policy is that if student's book(s) are overdue ( staff are excluded from this😃 ) at the end of the semester, the BOE requires we bill students via Skyward. Reminder emails are sent to them weekly, and letters will be sent home this week to encourage them to return their materials. IF they renew or return their books, they will not be billed.

  • The library has two book drops in the library and one under the stairs on the 1st floor of the west wing to drop books. If you need books renewed, just email myself or tayler.hernandez@usd305.com.

    • Thank you in advance for encouraging students to renew or return!

Upcoming Book Order...

I am working on my book order (due in April) for next fall. If you have a book, audiobook, or e-books you'd love to use or think the library should order, fill-out this form for consideration.

3.5 out of 5 stars

Recommended for any middle grade/high schoolers who loved Black Panther OR Nic Stone books.

Available @ our library

From Goodreads:

An original, upper-middle-grade series starring the break-out character from the Black Panther comics and films: T'Challa's younger sister, Shuri! Crafted by New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone. Shuri is a skilled martial artist, a genius, and a master of science and technology. But, she's also a teenager. And a princess. This story follows Shuri as she sets out on a quest to save her homeland of Wakanda.

For centuries, the Chieftain of Wakanda (the Black Panther) has gained his powers through the juices of the Heart-Shaped Herb. Much like Vibranium, the Heart-Shaped Herb is essential to the survival and prosperity of Wakanda. But something is wrong. The plants are dying. No matter what the people of Wakanda do, they can't save them. And their supply is running short. It's up to Shuri to travel from Wakanda in order to discover what is killing the Herb, and how she can save it, in the first volume of this all-new, original adventure.

Highly recommended for people who love time travel and any other of Schwab's books (her others are available @ our library).

On order...

From Goodreads:

"A Life No One Will Remember. A Story You Will Never Forget.

France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name."

Book Library Time

With students back full time, students and staff are welcome anytime. We will still encourage sanitizing hands when students enter, but we are excited to get back to "normal". Just have the student fill out their tracker to the library.

Scheduling Time with the Librarian

To schedule a collaboration on a lesson, you may add your name to this spreadsheet, call (x3747), or email (elizabeth.burke@usd305.com). I can also bring reserve carts to your classroom or create a digital collection for a project.

How can the library's resources help with Continued Digital Learning?

No paper textbook/ print book access this semester? No problem...

South High's library catalog has e-books and interactive books that can be accessed by a single student or a whole class.

    • Need a independent read or a whole class textbook? Destiny Discover has hundreds of electronic books and interactive books that can be accessed by students and/or teachers logging in with their school Google account.

      • Click here for directions regarding how to login to Destiny Discover for yourself or your students (these can be shared easily in Google Classroom).

        • Many new eBooks and interactive books were added with my last order.

      • Lightboxes and interactive books can be accessed by the whole class at once, and they embed You Tube videos, Google Earth, quizzes, and other interactive features. They are a great flipped classroom opportunity.

        • Watch the video below to see how to access and use the interactive books.

Jamboard in the Classroom

If you haven't tried Jamboard yet, it's one of my favorite go to Google apps. You can now upload backgrounds, and when our district updates Google (hopefully soon), there will be many more features. The assignment below was made for my library aides in Jamboard. You can share it so that each student gets a copy or the whole class is on one. So many options!
