Each form has 5 lessons per week, each of 45/40 minutes length. All examination forms are set on attainment level whilst the approach to I Form & TY is a little more common level. The top three sets at Senior Cycle and top two sets at Junior Cycle will prepare to undertake exams at the higher-level. Different styles of books and resources are used for the different attainment levels.
The role of the teacher is to work as part of a team, participating in the formulation of the department’s policies and carrying them out in the classroom. Teachers must have a positive attitude to their work and to guide and support the pupils in their charge in a variety of ways. The department consists of five very well qualified and highly experienced Mathematics teachers, four of whom teach the subject full-time.
The department has access to a number of digital projectors, and access to useful software packages. It has use of an ICT suite with terminals for the whole class. Various websites are used as teaching aids when appropriate. With the introduction of iPads in the Junior forms, we have been able to expand our ICT to incorporate the benefits of these devices.
