Swimming is an essential area of the curriculum, as well as being an extremely valuable and vital life skill especially when living on an island with swimming pools being commonplace on compounds. All children are expected to participate in their swimming sessions unless they have a medical reason not to do so, in which case a medical note or email must be presented or sent to the child’s swimming teacher.
Please note the following:
If a child is deemed not well enough to swim, they will be reviewed by the school nurses and we may contact you to collect them if we feel they are not well enough to participate in their other areas of learning
If a child was unable to participate in their curriculum swimming lesson, they will not be able to take part in any after-school activities or clubs on that day, including SPARTA, unless the medical note allows them to do so
Further swimming lessons outside of school are always encouraged, but not as a replacement for curriculum swimming
Please help your child come prepared for swimming lessons. You will need to pack the following items as part of your child’s swim kit; most of these items can be purchased from Cafe 61. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.
Navy swimming costume (girls) or navy swim shorts (boys). These do not have to be the St Chris branded items (No bikinis or board shorts are allowed)
A clean, dry towel or robe
Swim caps are compulsory - these help keep hair dry, and help will be given to the children to put them on
Goggles are compulsory - these allow children to put their face in the water, build their confidence in the water and to see more clearly under the water
House T-shirt or PE kit plus shorts, or a school dressing gown should be worn to walk to and from the pool, over the top of the swimming costume
Flip-flops or crocs, as these are quick and easy for the children to put on and off
Hair towel
