Preparing Students for the Future : Addressing COVID-19, Distance Learning, and Racial Justice
Please join Tony Thurmond, CA State Superintendent; Dr. Pedro Noguera, Distinguished Professor at UCLA; Sujie Shin, Deputy Executive Director, CCEE; and Dr. Daryl Camp, President, CAAASA as they address the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on instructional issues. Their conversation focused on issues including: instructional scheduling; access to technology devices and reliable wi-fi; households with multiple students; opportunities for academic support (classroom, civic and community-based); parental support and involvement; caregiver considerations, and more.
System Design: Ensuring We Serve Children Who Have Been Historically Disadvantaged
-Examine the histocial inequities of the educational system and how they are being translated into the virtual learning environment.
-Identify structures and policies that perpetuate an inequitable school system.
-Explore ways to interrupt the current educational system.
California Department of Education has put out a video series for integrated and designated ELD. Many of the videos are related to the SEAL teaching model or based on the vignettes in the ELD/ELA Framework.
