I enjoy spending time with my husband Allen and our 7-year old boys, Mike & Joe. Our favorite things to do together are building Legos, pretending to be superheroes, and building Lego superheroes! Allen and I like going to live concerts, going to Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars games, and working on our superhero jigsaw puzzles! You will often find us at the Fort Worth Zoo on the weekends and visiting family in Louisiana during holidays. In our house we cheer for the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas Stars!
I started piano lessons in 1st grade and added recorder in 3rd and 4th grade. When my family moved from Scotland to Flower Mound in 1996, I saw my first middle school band performance and signed up for beginning clarinet at Lamar Middle School for the following year. I transferred to McKamy Middle School when it opened in 1997 and was in the first freshman class at Flower Mound High School in 1999. For 7 years, I was immersed in the top performing bands in Lewisville ISD! I served as drum major for 3 years in high school and performed on the Wind Symphony's winning Midwest submission in 2003. After high school, I enrolled as a music major at Texas A&M University-Commerce. I performed with the Wind Ensemble at TMEA 2004, CBDNA 2005, and with the Clarinet Choir at TMEA 2006. In 2007 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Music, certified to teach all ages.
For 12 years, I was living the dream as the assistant band director at Durham Middle School in Lewisville, Texas. In addition to conducting the Symphonic Band, I taught the beginner woodwind and percussion classes.
Some of my favorite contributions to the Durham Fine Arts programs include co-founding the Durham Faculty Band which performs at our annual Holiday Extravaganza and founding the Durham Alumni Band which performs with the Wind Ensemble at our winter concerts. In 2010, I assisted with and conducted the first middle school Full Orchestra in LISD. The students received superior ratings at the PEAK Music Festival in Denton. Since 2016 I have assisted with 4 musical productions which included students from band, choir, orchestra, and theater. In 2017 I started the Dragon Thunder drumline and pep band! Symphonic Band also completed the first virtual band performance that year! In the history of Durham, Symphonic Band earned their best UIL performances and sight reading evaluations in 2018 and 2019!
After all of that, teaching music at Rockbrook Elementary has been one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences of my musical career.
