Setting Up a Routine

Routine and boundaries help kiddos know what to expect, help with independence (Yay for moms, dads, gramas, and caregivers!), and give a sense of confidence. For kiddos who are naturally nervous, or struggle with anxiety, routine is something that not only provides comfort, but is essential. During this time of learning from home, ask your kiddos to create a schedule. They'll likely create something very similar to what their day at school looks like (this is important for even middle and high school kiddos). Give them some boundaries, for example, include 60 minutes of physical exercise during the day, 30 minutes of reading, and limit technology time to 2 hours. When your kiddos create the schedule themselves, taking into account the perimeters you've set, it investment, and they're more likely to follow something they've created.

See the article below for more guidance on how to use routine and schedules to help.
