A: No. Some of our cheerleaders come to us with no prior experience and grow through our program. Having previous experience and skill does help your chances of making a team.
A: All 3 coaches judge tryouts together and work together to give each kid a correct score that reflects the athletes performance throughout the clinic week. We believe as coaches, we should take ownership of our teams, just like every other sport. The scoring system is a rubric and very easy to understand. We believe in transparency and fairness above all things.

A: We do not put a cap on how many we take. We look at the scores and use the natural point break to determine where the cut off is. Cheerleaders are first sorted by score, then we start assigning teams from grade level and score. On Average, each team will have anywhere from 10-20 cheerleaders. Varsity, due to the higher number of kids trying out, might have more.
A: 9th graders can only make our 9th grade team or, in some cases, the JV team if we have a large group of incoming freshmen. 10th-11th may make our JV or V teams. 12th must try out for Varsity only.
A: Not only will your child be placed in our cheerleading period daily on weekdays, but we also have practices, generally on Monday/Tuesday outside of the school day that last until 4:30-5:00. During the Fall, we spend weekends painting the halls for spirit decoration, we attend 2-3 competitions and sometimes have choreography sessions. These practices along with cheering at games is a large time commitment.
A: Yes. We provide a team for every Marcus cheerleader to be a part of. All grade levels are eligible to make out the Varsity competition/nationals team and our performance tumbling team if they have the necessary tumbling skills. If they do not make a varsity competition team, we have a JV competition team that competes all fall.
A: Yes. All cheerleading parents are required to attend certain events throughout the year like, Axe and Mounds sign painting, setting up our blackout pep-rally, helping with our booster club, selling shirts at lunch and helping in other various roles. Being a cheer parent is a big deal and can be a lot of fun!
A: Yes! We have worked very hard to accommodate our practice and choreography times so they do not overlap with all star cheer. Our games and events NOT SET by our cheerleading program are pre-set at the beginning of the year so you will know when your child will be cheering. We do ask that since we work hard to help you, that you and your child keep in close communication with us and the all star gym about events. Dates that are set in advance are mandatory for Marcus cheerleaders, but we do allow 2 “skips” or “freebies” per year.
A: Please look under the tryout overview tab for this info.
