LISD's GT Assessment Process
GT Referrals can be made by a parent, a teacher, or by data collected by the GT Facilitator. A request for GT Testing must be made via email to Forest Vista's GT Facilitator, Mrs. Oelkers - OelkersA@lisd.net
The Gifted & Talented (GT) Testing process collects data through objective and subjective assessments and is measured against the criteria approved by the LISD Board to determine individual eligibility for the program. Assessment tools may include, but are not limited to, the following: achievement tests, intelligence tests, creativity tests, behavioral checklists completed by teachers and parents, and available student work products.
GT Testing begins with an ability assessment to collect qualitative data. Afterward, if the student scores high on those, the will move on to acheivement testing.
Two selection committees--both campus level and district level--consisting of educators and administrators, who have received training in the nature and needs of gifted students, will evaluate each nominated/referred student according to the established criteria. They will identify those students for whom placement in GT Services is the most appropriate educational setting.
GT Testing takes approximately 7 hours but it will be spread out over several weeks based on the GT Facilitators' schedule and your child’s classroom schedule.
Most of the time, the entire Selection Process for LISD GT happens over the course of 9 weeks. There may be times when more data needs to be collected. There are a total of 4 GT Selections per school year.
