THE STUDENTS ARE STRUGGLING WITH Subtraction and TIME. I HAVE ASKED THEM TO PRACTICE IN IXL UNDER TIME #1, 2, 3, 5 AND 6 and under subtraction D1 and D3. This is practice only and not for a grade. They need to get to 80% proficiency.

REMINDER: THE PUMPKIN STORY CHARACTER IS DUE ON 10/23

Week of Oct. 19th EARLY RELEASE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

In math we are beginning Chapter 3, subtraction with regrouping. In spelling we are starting the Lesson 7 words which have been sent home and will be in the students interactive notebooks. In grammar we are working on verb tenses, past, present and future. There will be many notes in their interactive notebook to help them prepare for the grammar test on Friday. In reading we will be reading the story "What Do Illustrators Do." The vocabulary words are in their interactive notebook. If they bring this notebook home each night and spend a little time looking over the vocabulary and the grammar they will be ready for the Lesson 7 test on Friday. In science we are starting the Lesson 5 packet that goes along with the reading in Chapter 2 we have done. This packet will be able to come home with them each night so they can review the vocabulary words. In social studies we are continuing in Chapter 2 Kinds of Communities. They do not have a workbook for social studies so this is mostly reading together and discussion. I will prepare some questions for them to answer based on the reading.

Multiplication - we will be doing timed test in multiplication every week. Each student will work towards passing them in 3 minutes. They must pass through the 12's by the end of the school year. Please have them practicing every night.


Week of Oct. 12th

In math we are finishing up with Chapter 2, adding with re-grouping. The chapter test will be Friday. In spelling we are starting the Unit 2 words with Lesson 6. These have been sent home with them and are also in their interactive notebooks. In grammar we are working on action verbs, being verbs and verbs as a part of speech. There will be many notes in their interactive notebook to help them prepare for the grammar test on Friday. In reading we will be reading the story "Bat Loves the Night." The vocabulary words are in their interactive notebook. If they bring this notebook home each night and spend a little time looking over the vocabulary and the grammar they will be ready for the Lesson 6 test on Friday. In science we are starting the Lesson 4 packet that goes along with the reading in Chapter 2 we have done. This packet will be able to come home with them each night so they can review the vocabulary words. In social studies we are starting Chapter 2 Kinds of Communities. This week in Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary and Grammar we are preparing for the Unit 1 test that will be spread out from Wednesday through Friday. In math we are starting chapter 2 which is working on addition with re-grouping. In science we have started looking at chapter 2, Animals. In social studies we are finishing up our chapter on Communities.

Their weekly vocabulary words are put in their reading interactive notebook every Monday and they are encouraged to bring that home with them to have them to study each night.

They also have a lot of Grammar notes in that interactive notebook which will help for the weekly Grammar test.

Please encourage them to bring this home each day as it will help you understand what we are working on during those subjects.

PICTURE DAY IS TUESDAY OCTOBER 6TH

We are going to be preparing all next week for the Unit 1 reading, grammar, vocabulary and spelling test. The test will be spread out throughout the week. We will be starting Chapter 2 in science "Animals." The class as a whole is doing great. We are getting a little chatty when they need to not be talking but we are working on it. They are really getting into the 3rd grade routine.

We are starting our 5th week of school. Please talk with your child about the importance of lessoning to and reading the directions. Many of them are making mistakes because they are not doing this. Third grade is a huge transition for them. They are moving towards being independent motivators.

What a great week we have had! The students are starting to settle in to the routine of 3rd grade. They are starting to learn that some of the test will look different from what they have seen before. I am grading with a light hand right now until they get more comfortable.

Friday the 18th: Chapter 1 Math Test, Spelling Test, Reading Test which includes the vocabulary and grammar from that week.

Make sure they are studying their spelling words and their vocabulary words for Friday. This Friday the 11th will be a free dress day, it is PE day so if the girls wear sandals I told them to be sure to bring tennis shoes.

The Chapter 1 Science Vocabulary came home today. There will not be a test on these words until the end of the chapter. The WILL NOT be a science vocab quiz this week. I will announce when the chapter 1 tests will be with plenty of warning.

All homework is now in RenWed, if there are any changes as the week moves through I will update it. Please make sure your child has a composition book for science. Every student should have brought their vocabulary workbook home to start studying for the test on Friday. This will need to come back each day. Tomorrow is PE so please make sure they have a water bottle, they cannot use the water fountain.

We have made it through our first week. We have had so much fun this week. A letter is coming home today with your child, please be sure to read it. Next week we will start really hitting the books and I know they will be ready. Remember to send a healthy snack and a water bottle with your child. Also make sure your child has a composition book for science. Thank you!

If your child brought their math book home today they need to complete today's assignment. The same goes for their spelling. For at home learners, on Thursday my class will end early because they go to art from 1:15 to 2:00 then to recess from 2:10 to 2:45. Please make sure your child has a composition book. Today a packet is coming home with students. This will contain their sign in information for the different apps we will be using, the spelling words for unit one, and a couple of surveys. Please complete those and return them to the school with your child. Friday the students are going to get to have a fun day. We are going to do Flashlight Friday and a movie. For Flashlight Friday they can bring in a couple of books or pick one from the classroom, we will turn off the lights and they get to read by flashlight. They can lay under their desk or spread out around the room. We will watch the movie after lunch. This is a fun way to end our first week of school.

We had a great first day. Make sure to send in a healthy snack and a water bottle with your child each day. As we go through this new way of learning I am trying to make it as stress free as possible. Students need to bring their favorite book from their summer reading and be prepared to share an excerpt with the class.
