Summer No. 3, Friday 13th May 2022

Gospel of the Week

The Fifth Sunday of Easter- Year C

I give you a new commandment: Love one another

When Judas was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man receives his glory. And God receives glory through him. If God receives glory through him, then God will give glory to the Son through himself. And God will give him glory quickly.”

Jesus said, “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me. And what I told the Jews, I tell you now: Where I am going you cannot come.

“I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.”

John 13:31-35

Year 6 SATs

The Y6 SATs are now complete and we would like to congratulate the children on their hard work, dedication and on the way they applied themselves during the tests.

We are very proud of every child for the way they have overcome previously unthinkable obstacles to achieve what they have this week, we are sure you will all join us in sending them your heartiest congratulations for their efforts.

We would like to thank the staff who came in early to organise and run the SATs breakfast club this week and also everyone working behind the scenes ensuring the tests were administered smoothly and efficiently to make the process as simple as possible for all involved.

SEND Provision Presentation

Mrs Popat will be holding a SEND Provision Presentation at the Coffee Morning on Friday 20th May 2022. She will provide advice on the process involved in making a referral to the local authority, the roles of the Educational Phycologist and the Speech and Language therapist and what is covered by the Educational Health Care Plan.

Year 2 SATs

Next week sees the beginning of the Year 2 SATs. While not as intense as the Year 6 SATs these test still mark an important stage in your child's journey through school. We will do everything to make next week as normal as possible for the children and urge you to do the same.

Kits4Kids

One of our parent/carers, Mr Riley has started a wonderful initiative to help children who are unable to afford football shirts be able to finally have the shirt they have dreamed of. Please read the message from Mr Riley and go to his Crowdfunder page if you are able to help;

"Football shirts and Football Kits are expensive and with the cost of living increasing daily, it means that children from disadvantaged backgrounds or from families who are in financial hardship may never be able to afford a shirt or kit for the team that they support.

The Aim

To start locally (I work in The London Borough of Newham and live in The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham), and try to put a smile on the face of children by gifting them a football shirt from their favourite team.

We can all remember the excitement and pride that we all had as children when we put on our first football shirt. Even now, I still get excited when I put on my favourite club's shirt.

We will work with local charitable organisations and distribute shirts to those children who would not normally be able to afford a shirt.

We hope to eventually become a registered charity distributing shirts in London (from borough to borough) and hopefully we can also take this worldwide.

The ways to donate are as follows:-

DONATE MONEY

All monies donated will be used to buy new shirts. These shirts will be donated to children to put a smile on their faces.

DONATE AN OLD SHIRT

We all have old football shirts lying idle in wardrobes or cupboards that no longer fit our kids."

Please click the button below for more information and to donate if you are able.

Queen's Platinum Jubilee

To celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee the late May bank holiday has been moved to 2nd June and an extra bank holiday has been added for Friday 3rd June to make a four day weekend. However these days are in the June half term break so schools have been asked to choose another day to celebrate.

Therefore school will be closed on Monday 20th June 2022.

Please click the picture to see a PowerPoint of all the Picture News resources including the assembly that the children see each week.

This week the question is: "Should you always be allowed to choose your own breakfast?"

Summer School Dinner Menu

The summer menu is here! As you will see there is a Jacket Potato option every day with a variety of fillings. Please click the buttons below to see the menus. Next week's menu is the Summer Week 1 Menu.

Please note there have been some slight alterations to the allergens list on the menus and have been updated to reflect this.

School Uniform

We've noticed that the usual high uniform standards have been slipping a little for some children recently, especially on days when they come into school wearing their PE kit. Please click the buttons to see our uniform policies.

School Bags

Some of our classrooms are a little tight for space, so please use the school issue school bag wherever possible. The children do not need to bring very much to school and these bags are more than roomy enough for all their things.

Breakfast Club

If your child is enrolled in the Breakfast Club please remember the doors are open from 7.45am - 8.05am. If the children arrive later than this they will miss most of the session.

Please clear any arrears before the start of the Summer Term.

Coffee Morning

We are delighted to let you know that our Parent/Carer Coffee mornings have recommenced! Each week there will be a performance by the children, singing a song from the previous week's assembly. Next week's performance will be by Class 4H.

We would like to remind all visitors to the school that the school is a 'Mobile Free Zone' and that mobile phones should be switched off and kept out of sight at all times while on the school premises, including in the playground.

National Online Safety

What Parents & Carers need to know about

Online Safety for Under 5s

According to Ofcom’s most recent research, a significant proportion of children are already online by the time they start school, with 17% of 5-year-olds owning their own mobile phone and 50% using messaging platforms. As becoming familiar with technology is generally encouraged in younger children – and has been essential for education during the pandemic – it is essential that trusted adults recognise both the benefits and the risks of infants and toddlers going online. We’ve compiled our top tips to help the under-5s start their online safety journey.

In the guide, you'll find tips such as managing screen time, block in-app purchases and using devices together.

This week's Prayer

Jesus,

We thank you that you loved us so much that you gave your life for us.

Help us to love one another as you have loved us

Amen.

God Bless You,

Mrs Brosnan

Head Teacher
