Gospel of the Week

(The Third Sunday of Easter - Year B)

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognised by them when he broke the bread.

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of cooked fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence.

He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things."

Luke 24: 35-48

Welcome Back

We hope you all had a restful and Holy Easter break and are ready for the final term of the year!

As usual there are lots of exciting things coming up and we will let you know about them over the next couple of weeks.

In this newsletter there is information about the new catering team and the new menu, an update on the Easter fundraising and the announcement of the winners of the Spring Term House Point Champions, along with our usual Covid Health Champions news and National Online Safety update.

Easter Fundraising

We are delighted to announce that the Easter Fundraising achieved the wonderful sum of £468.88 !!!!

We would like to thank all of our parents and carers for their contributions and special thanks go to the Parent Carer Forum for all of their hard work.

New Caterers and Menu

We have a new catering company - Olive Dining - who started serving the children on Thursday. The salad/fruit bar was a particular favourite with many children asking for seconds!

We will be sending you the menu for the following week via MarvellousMe every Friday and if you click the buttons below you will be taken to the three weekly menu, for your information.

Breakfast Club

We have some vacancies in our Breakfast Club, if you would like your child to attend, please contact the School Office on 020 8478 0510 or info@st-winefrides.newham.sch.uk (please put 'Breakfast Club' in the subject field) to request a place.

The current cost is £3.00 per child per day, with a minimum of three days payable (£9.00) per week.

Remote Learning

Please remember that if your child has to take time away from school for a Covid related reason, the children may access their work via Google Classroom as usual.

If your child is unwell there is no expectation for them to access Remote Learning.

Covid Health Champions

Newham are releasing statistics each week to show the current state of the pandemic in the borough.

The latest dashboard is shown below and was published on 14th April with information for the week 4th to 10th April. There has been a drop in the number of positive cases but the number is still very high.

Please click here or on the picture of the statistics to download a copy of the dashboard for 14th April 2021.

Advice from the London Borough of Newham is:

Our latest dashboard is out. After weeks of steady decline this week we see that rates remain static - still low but static and not going down any more. It also shows that we have fewer tests happening and more are coming back positive. It's crucial that we remember that COVID is very much still around and still a risk - keep your distance, wear your face coverings, wash hands and get tested regularly and also ensure you isolate if you have symptoms, test positive or are a contact. Support is available.

We know that there have been some news stories about a variant of COVID in south east London. It's often called the South African variant. We are currently not surge testing for the SA variant – however we are monitoring the situation closely and have plans in place in the event of an outbreak. This includes looking at what types of COVID we see in hospital when we do see COVID in hospital. Even though the number of hospital admissions are very low now.

Anyone in Newham can now order free rapid tests to be delivered to you at home and then to do at home https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/3

You can also pick up tests from a number of places around Newham as well https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/2

Vaccines are now open to everyone 45 and over in Newham. All the different ways you can book are listed on this website:

https://www.newham.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-vaccination/4.

We're also offering even more places where residents can get their vaccine if they live with someone eligible and come along with them. This will now include the Excel centre. Go along with the person who is eligible and has booked and you should be able to get your vaccine. Please do share this with others.

For now the way to get the multigenerational vaccine is to show up with the person who is eligible then the others in the household can get a vaccine then and there OR you can book in for another time

There have been a few questions about going to have a vaccine with someone in your household is eligible for their vaccine. This is available at all the vaccine sites in Newham (the GPs, the pop-ups, the pharmacies, Excel) except Westfield - it's a big deal we can do it at Excel as that's a site that Newham does not locally lead / run.

This offer of being able to be vaccinated with someone you live with is something that Newham has pushed hard for - and argued for with central government - so please do share any stories you have of using it so we can keep it going.

There a few bookings are available for the 1st NHS COVID-19 Vaccination at Ramgarhia Community Centre this week. We now have a new online booking system and if you use the link below to choose your preferred available time for 15 April 2021. www.ramgarhia.simplybook.it This is AstraZeneca as all 1st doses in Newham as we only have Pfizer for second dose at the moment.

Remember:

HANDS - wash your hands often, for 20 seconds with soap and water.

FACE - wear a face covering whenever you’re inside a public space.

SPACE - stay 2 metres apart from people you don’t live with.

In addition to – but not altogether separate from – concerns over fuelling possible body-image issues, Snapchat has also garnered a reputation as a vehicle for sexting. The fact that messages can be set to auto-delete after 10 seconds can encourage (seemingly) evidence-free sharing of explicit selfies, particularly among teenagers.

But just because a picture digitally ‘evaporates’, it doesn’t mean the risk does too. Even if the image is shared with someone they actually know (as opposed to a stranger who’s befriended them online), sexting between under-18s is against the law – and it’s still possible for a picture to be saved and shared elsewhere. If your child is among Snapchat’s 200 million daily users, you might want to investigate this week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide.

This Week's Prayer

Dear Father in heaven,

Thank You for loving us.

Thank You for sending Jesus and giving us your peace.

Help us to bring peace to our world too.
